About this listen

Felix never believed in soulmates...until he met her.

Felix Mays has only two goals in life - to play his cello and to stay off heroin. He’s only a few weeks out of rehab and accomplishing both - barely. Then Felix meets gorgeous Jenna Rollins, single mom and half of the rising pop-star duo Alec and Jenna, who’ve practically been voted LA’s cutest couple. Jenna offers Felix a job with the band, and it’s an opportunity he can’t refuse, even though his feelings for Jenna are quickly turning romantic.

Then Felix learns the truth - Alec and Jenna have been broken up for over a year, and maintain their couple-image just for the fans. Jenna is falling for Felix as fast he is for her, but she and Alec have agreed not to date anyone until the band has peaked - and that’s clearly years away.

Felix and Jenna are determined to make it work, despite the strain on their careers, their relationships with the band, and even Felix’s struggling sobriety. A situation this stressful is the last thing Felix needs - and the one thing he can’t bring himself to walk away from.

I admit I "drug my feet" about listening to this one, but it ended up being my FAVORITE of the series! I work at a rehab facility and appreciated the authenticity with regard to Felix's treatment. It looks like the authors did their homework. The only bit of information I questioned was when Felix said something along the lines of "There being no come down off of heroine." I've seen numerous addicts go through severe, painful withdrawals from heroine so I'm not sure I agreed with that statement; but otherwise, the mentions of the program, therapy, coping skills, Suboxone, and Felix's prior use of Fentanyl was all very true to life. Also, really loved the character development in this one. Great story!

Pleasantly surprised!

The characters are truly damaged people trying very hard to make better choices but clearly having no idea how to. You feel the loneliness resulting from living a secret life and from completely starting a new life. it make’s sense that two touch starved people would cling so deeply and quickly. The story balances the hilarity of life with the drama of some very mess up people. It never feels like it’s lurching it just gets intense then a nice steam release to catch your breath. Choosing how you read it you may see a ‘ bad guy’ or you may see just another damaged person that adds to the complexity of the story. I found Flex to be multi faceted interesting character and enjoyed how his story unfolded.

Both part of the audio were good!

Excellent!

I listened to this book in one day. Didn’t want to put it down. There is so much literature about the travesties of addiction but not enough about the journey of recovery. I loved the characters in this book and their relationships with one another.

I wasn’t sure about the narrator’s voice, if it would be difficult to listen to or not, due to seeming warbly to me. But it was fine.
Really liked the story; so raw and truthful about addiction, recovery and process.
I can’t recommend this book enough!

Real.

The second book was a little annoying with the heroine hang ups, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
