About this listen

When justice is on the line, the courtroom becomes a battleground for a prosecutor obsessed with victory, a defense attorney hired to thwart it and a wily defendant making a bid for freedom.

Steven Ross, a family man from a small midwestern town, has been arrested for murder. Evidence suggests he’s an accomplice of the sadistic killer Paul Offenbach. County district attorney Evan Quill believes in his heart that Ross is guilty, but as the trial unfolds, doubts emerge. He presses forward anyway, in a legal fencing match against a brilliant big-city defense attorney. Will Quill’s uncompromising beliefs put an innocent man in jail? Or will a misstep let a killer go free?

From internationally bestselling master of suspense Jeffery Deaver comes Execution Day, part of The Broken Doll Collection, a series of interconnected short stories about killers and prey, justice and revenge, that can be read or listened to in a single breathless experience.

THE AUTHOR JEFFREY DEAVER IS DRIVEN TO EMPHASIZE PLANATIVE EVENTS AND SCENES IN THE NARRATION OF HIS STORY EXECUTION DAY. THE STREET BLOCADE DETAILED IN THE BEGINNING MOMENTS DESCRIBED THE ASSUMING TRIALS OF THE DAY. IT WAS ADMINISTERING AND THREATENING ENOUGH TO EXPLAIN EXECUTION DAY IS THE TIME BEFORE THE LAST DEFINITIVE MOMENT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO OR WHO IS PRESENT EVER. ON THIS DAY, ALL MEMBERS ARE PRESENT AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF COMMON SENSE DICTATES WHAT COMMUNITY YOU INSISTED TO BE.

Book 3 and I continue to be thrilled with the interplay of the different flavors of each story encompassing psychological suspense, action, and now courtroom drama. Great characters, strong story, and can’t wait for the final part!

Great concept for a 4-part series of novellas!

Good story, although not as captivating as the prior book. This story revolves around the trial of a man accused of killing a police officer and is told mainly from the POV of the prosecutor. Again, it was good but was a bit of a let down after the fast pace of the prior book.

Good story

I had a more difficult time getting into this story but eventually was captured by the pace and twisting. Deaver is demonstrating his talent for keeping the reader guessing.

Another surprised ending

This is the third in the Broken Doll Collection. I wasn’t sure I was enjoying this, but the end changed my mind. I enjoyed the twist and was surprised, which is always a good thing in my opinion!

Enjoyed the twist

Primarily told from Evan's point of view, this story overlayed from book 2. Ugh, the ending though 😞 Bring on the final book.
Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

Not the ending I wanted

Book 3 did not disappoint. The storyline flows well with a great plot that is well written. The characters are well written as well and well developed. Jeffery Deaver is a wonderful author and one of my favorites. I would recommend reading this series. Christina Traister did another fine job narrating

Great Listening

Enjoying the series. Each of these is capable of being a stand alone, but together they neatly fill in the blind spots. Planning to continue on to the fourth.

Good Continuation

Good character development despite being a short story. Thank you Mr Deaver, most enjoyable tale.

Tantalizing tale

One of the worst of Deavers. The reader was mechanical sounding. Maybe it was because it was a short story.

It was boring
