About this listen

When your mob families are at war, what are the risks of giving love a shot?

In this explosive short story, international bestselling author Jeffery Deaver brings readers a classic tale of star-crossed lovers who defy the boundaries of enemy territory. When an underworld kingpin gets taken out, his prime turf is up for grabs. For Irish crime lord Brendon Nagle and archrival John Yung, head of a forty-man tong, it’s war. For Nagle’s son, Andrew, and Yung’s daughter, Loi, it’s love at first sight. But others are watching as their secret love unfolds. Surveilled, suspected of betrayal, and targets of their fathers’ ruthless greed, Andrew and Loi know this story well. They’re doomed. But they have plans of their own. Challenging the violent rules of the mob, they’re rushing headlong toward a fate that few can see coming.

Great short story. Really needs to be a part two and maybe three, in short story form.

Fantastic ending

I truly enjoyed this book. It leads to quite an ending. In most cases the narrator did a great job

Verona is a straight shooting fiction piece. It gives out a discussion of the present.

The narrator took up the task.

Verona, the latest of Jeffery Deaver’s short stories series that I’ve listened to is a very entertaining tale. A modern version of Romeo and Juliet told through a mob setting with plenty of twists and turns that I never saw coming. So far of the Jeffery Deaver Short Stories series I’d say Verona is tied for being my favorite. Scott Merriman’s narration takes this story to “the next level.” His character voices and pacing kept me fully entertained from the opening line all the way to the final word.

Maybe the best of Jeffery Deavers Short Stories se

I have read many books by this author and of late I have stopped reading because his books were so verbose and would get so bogged down in the details that I would lose interest in the story. This was not the case with this novella. It was a great tale that kept the reader interested and a great ride to the end. I would highly recommend this book.

A refreshing change

I have read several of this author’s short stories, specifically in the Lincoln Rhyme universe , and they are never satisfying. This is the exception. It was fully developed, a good read and a fun twist and double twist ending all in only 2 hours.

A Complete Crime Story Well Written

I love the book with many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Which is typical for Jeffrey Deaver. one of my favourite authors.

Loved it.

Although his short stories don’t always live up to the author’s wonderful talent for writing twists and turns, this one does not disappoint.

Deaver’s best short story!
