About this listen

Ancient mythical evil haunts the modern world....

Marcus Mortlake has dedicated his life to battling evil. And in doing so, the paranormal investigator has ignored his professional responsibilities for far too long. When his college brings him to task, the weary professor finds himself facing an enemy he had no chance at defeating: the college bursar.

Before he can face the music, both the troublesome administrator and one of Mortlake’s disgruntled students disappear, leaving only a pile of crumbling dust behind. Mortlake suspects supernatural forces are to blame. But even he is shocked to discover that the culprit may be a mythological terror whose very name is synonymous with fear....

Mortlake struggles to track down the malevolent entity while dodging inquisitive college officials and law enforcement out for his hide. And upon realization that someone close to him has become possessed by the ancient spirit, he must call upon every ounce of his supernatural knowledge to bring an end to their reign of terror, before more blood is spilled.

But a shadowy figure is manipulating events behind the scenes. And they’re determined to make sure their existence stays hidden....

Until it’s time to reveal their cause.

Love the professor

I am glad the professor continues his work. I hope his friends stick it out for the next book. This is a great series!

Beware the ancient curses

As a monster of ancient days comes knocking at the present times, Mortlake is not sure how they are going to combat this beast. After being dumped by his girlfriend, he is surprised to meet the beautiful new teacher on campus, an archaeologist, who just might be able to help him defeat this ancient being.

Great read! I loved it! This might be my favorite book of the series so far!

Longhorn delivers again.

David Longhorn is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors.

I suck at reviews so I'll just keep it short. It's rare that we can get legends from centuries ago done right in today's world. Longhorn accomplishes that. Bowers is brilliant as always. I highly recommend following both of these gentlemen.

Awesome book, like the other ones in this series.

This book was great! Really made me wish that I had paid more attention to Greek mythology! Lots of violence and gore, which doesn’t bother me a bit! Well done!

More surprises inside

Mortlake and Tara make such a great combination. I can't wait to see what happens next. The "adventures" aren't predictable or boring so they keep you on your toes. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

5th of Series

This is the 5th of series. Loved the characters of Mortlake, Opal (his cat), and Tara. In this book Mortlake is trying to solve the disappearance of people around him and mythological creatures appear while Tara gets possessed due to her powers. Recommend you read/listen the first 4 books to get the full effect and cannot wait for 6th.

Golden Eyes and Snakes for Hair…

Well now, that could be an equation for the start of a bad hair day. In fact, maybe a bad day overall. For you guys out there, definitely a bad sign that you probably need to back out on that date!

This installment in David Longhorn’s Mortlake series was excellent. I enjoyed the backstories, and there were some solid character development on the main characters that helped me identify with them. A couple of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting kept the story fresh! I am a big fan of Thom Bowers range of voices that he narrates. You know which characters are speaking. Thom narrates all of Ron Ripley’s books, so hearing him voice other authors work is slightly jarring for me at first, but I get over it quickly. Please don’t take this comment as a complaint-it is more of a veiled compliment as I strongly believe that Thom Bowers IS THE VOICE of Scare Street Publications. I have listened to Ripley’s books greater than 100x. I have my favorites. I have listened to most of David Longhorn’s. This Mortlake series is by far the best of his in my estimation.

absolutely riveting

I really enjoyed this book. I so hated to see the ending of the book. I wanted it to go on and on. I had chills going up and down my spine and biting my nails. It's a read at night at your own risk type of book. Great job to those involved. 5 stars and a thumbs up. You can't go wrong with this one. Question is are you brave enough to read it?
