About this listen

For every woman that has ever felt trapped; a funny, raw, and empowering mid-life-crisis.

Creator, mother, lover, and social media phenomenon Tova Leigh explores what the hell you are supposed to do when you find yourself living a life you don't remember signing up for.

I was bored, angry, tired, and sad. I felt all alone yet I had nothing to complain about. I had a good job, a husband who wasn't shagging his assistant, three children who apart from being the occasional a**holes were pretty good kids; a house, a dog, and everything else we are told as little girls we should aspire to. But inside, I was growing restless. I didn't want to be looked at as just a "mom". I wanted to be desired, to make someone's hair stand on end and go crazy for me. I didn't want to live by some label that didn't represent me. I looked at my messy minivan one morning and I wanted to vomit on it all. I panicked, thinking about how I am slowly approaching middle age and menopause, and I wondered how many years do I have left of being "f--ckable" before everything starts going downhill?

In her first book, Tova takes the listener on her journey of rediscovering who she is after motherhood and beyond the norms society forces upon women, whilst encouraging them to break free and just be themselves.

When you find authenticity it's hard to go back. It's like opening a door to the truth and starting to breathe a new type of air. This discovery is what prompted me to write. It's my way of saying HERE I AM.

I wasn’t sure if I would find the book relatable- my situation is quite different where I have no kids, never married, and the title, “F*cked at 40” takes on a much different meaning for me. I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did! Tova is brilliant, charming, and relatable for all women who have gone through a thing or two in their life...beyond motherhood and marriage, which I truly appreciated. The book flowed really well (I listened on Audible versus reading it), and I was captivated the whole time. Tova has the wonderful ability to connect with a diverse audience and while I won’t give anything away, I found the book funny, enjoyable, and so damned good. I highly recommend this book...especially if you’re a woman hovering around middle age.

A Fantastic Read for Everyone!

Rating from my husband's amazon account... I have followed Tova Leigh for a long time online. She is so funny and relatable online! This book was no different! We get so stuck in the routine of wife, mom, employee, etc. that we forget who we actually are. We are more than the roles we play. This book has helped me reconnect with myself, and I am so thankful for it.

So inspiring!

If you know who Tova is, and follow her, you don't need to read this review, because you are going to buy this book anyway.

So this is a review for people who don't know who she is;

Tova Leigh is that lady who sometimes shows up in your feed, who sounds American, but is somehow British?
You may have seen a video of her endlessly funny, yet perfectly on the mark rants. Whether it's about the pressures of being a mom, western beauty standards or misogyny, she's always there to point out exactly what we need to be reminded of.
Or a shorter video, where she in her own way, by re-creating it, points out how unrealistic and frankly absurd, a lot of mainstream and social media's portrail of women is.

So now you know who she is, and should definitely follow her everywhere possible, let's talk about the book;

The book is about how Tova, like so many women, found herself fed up with living up to everyone else's expectations of who and what she was supposed to be.
We read about how these pressures and expectations effected her throughout her life and when the glass ran over, in her own truthfull and funny way.
We also get some tears along the way, because life has it's difficult phases, but they only make us love her more.
It's funny, heartfelt and a great reminder that you don't have to follow the herd. Your life can be lived the way you want it to, f**ck what everyone else thinks.

Funny, heartfelt, tuching and a kick in the...
