Publisher's summary

The New York Times Bestseller

Fear. Grief. Loss. Betrayal. Rachel Hollis has felt all those things, and she knows you have too. Now, she takes you to the other side.

With her signature humor, heartfelt honesty, and intimate true-life stories, #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hollis shows listeners how to seize difficult moments for the learning experiences they are and the value and growth they provide.

Rachel Hollis sees you. As the millions who listened to her #1 New York Times bestsellers Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing, attend her RISE conferences and follow her on social media know, she also wants to see you transform.

When it comes to the “hard seasons” of life—the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job—transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn’t See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain—you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

To Rachel, a life well-lived is one of purpose, focused only on the essentials. This is a small book about big feelings: inspirational, aspirational, and an anchor that shows that darkness can co-exist with the beautiful.

Just keep hope a alive

We all face hard times, but in 2020 it seems like the flood gates opened. Rachel writes to give us hope that we can bounce back from job loss, death, depression and more as long as we keep hope alive and do the work. This is a great reminder to keep on the shelf and revisit when you need a little extra hope.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Absolutely Breathtaking

As usual, Rachel Hollis is phenomenal! I was confused in the beginning as I didn’t really understand what was going on; because of the timing of this book, I thought this was in reference to her divorce as well as the pandemic. After watching her latest ‘interview’ with Tom Bilyeu, I realized that was not the case. So I started it over with a fresh outlook (and also realized she mentions this is the beginning of the book, which she added in during the editing process). This book is about dealing with the unexpected; processing, coping and recovering from loss; finding yourself and finding hope! It is highly relatable no matter your situation, even if you haven’t experienced any kind of loss, which I’m sure most people have lost something if not someone. Rachel Hollis is an icon, a true adversary for women around the world. If you haven’t read her previous best sellers, those are a must! ‘Girl, Wash Your Face’ was an eye opener for me to get out of my head and start living my best life and ‘Girl, Stop Apologizing’ gives you the step by step tools on how to do that! I am an avid fan for life and will continue to read and watch everything this amazing, strong, independent, authentic, life-changing woman puts out into the world. This book, like her others, is just like her; absolutely amazing, real and breathtaking! A must-read! Thank you Rachel, for everything!

a great book to help with the new year

I enjoyed listening to another of Rachel's books and her calm, but funny tone. This time I listened to the entire book in one sitting to help get me started with the new year and get over my husband's death.

Inspired

I wasn’t ready for the book to be finished. This is the type of book to listen to multiple times and take notes.

Perfect

I love that Rachel narrates her own books and she's honest and raw. Everyone has struggles and it is empowering to listen and see that we all are the same at the end of the day. This is my favorite of all the audibles she has done.

Exactly what we need RIGHT NOW & in hard times.

Life is a struggle and this beautifully written book acknowledges that and helps to overcome it. This book was easy to listen to, easy-to-follow and extremely helpful. I actually listened to it twice. If you or anyone you know is struggling at any point in time in their life this is a great book for them. I highly recommend it.
