About this listen

After a stint in the private sector, working at the largest hedge fund in the world, Nora Carleton has returned to her former role as a New York City federal prosecutor. And she's arrived just in time to face one of the most dangerous domestic terror attacks in the history of the city.

A threat is building in the city, with far right extremism powered by internet demagogues and funded by shadowy organizations. Together with legendary investigator Benny Dugan and aided by colleagues at the FBI, Nora builds a case against the key players in this burgeoning movement, arguing before a jury that some speech is actually a deadly crime. But the menace taking root is far bigger than any courtroom, and as the militants target an upcoming United Nations rally, Nora and her team must race to disrupt the plans and minimize casualties.

At once a fast-paced legal thriller and a close look at the very real perils of political extremism, FDR Drive harnesses former FBI director James Comey's life experience to tell an authentic and compelling narrative that listeners won't soon forget.

The characters are realistic and the plot engaging and timely with our current political climate. The narrator did a wonderful job by giving the characers their own personalities, reading at a good pace and easy to understand. I've loved the previous Nora Carleton books and hope there are more to come.

This was a fun read with enough excitement to keep me interested. I felt a little wistful, however, thinking deeply about Mr. Comey’s tale of uncovering a single villain and emerging with at least some good news. I do not believe that there is only one villain or villains on only one side in our current divided nation, but it was uplifting to contemplate possible happy endings.

Nice entry in an enjoyable series

I really like this series by James Comey. It follows the protagonist, Nora Carleton, a federal prosecutor in NYC. In this book she’s going up against a home grown terrorist. A man with an internet show who talks about people (politicians, ex-employees…) he believes are hurting the country. Regardless of whether they are or not, in his opinion or the organization he does the bidding for, he encourages his listeners to take action. What makes the case so difficult is that he doesn’t come out and say the person needs to be killed. Instead he tells his audience in various ways that could be taken as an opinion or a directive.

The publisher’s summary is pretty comprehensive and I don’t want to give too much away. This book can stand alone from the other two however I would suggest listening to the series in order for more background all of which is very interesting and entertaining.

I think Cassandra Campbell is one of the TOP women narrators. She does an absolutely Fantastic job with this and every book she narrates. For me it’s a toss up between her and Angela Dawe.

This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

I enjoyed this. First Comey book I listened to. It didn’t blow me away, but it was good enough. If you’re like me and like to listen to something while doing dishes, etc. I’d recommend.

Good character

I was never a fan of Director Comey, but the premise of this latest of his books: the challenge of balancing Constitutionally protected speech against ideologically motivated violence was enticing and timely. Comey’s background and experience promised a unique insight . The problem with this Audible is that the reader was so desirous of trying out various heavy handed accents for each character that it proved too distracting to finish beyond the third chapter. A potentially interesting book ruined by an unfortunate choice of reader.

An interesting premise ruined by a terrible performance
