About this listen
The author of the award-winning thriller Anybody’s Daughter explores the bullying epidemic and its devastating aftermath.
What Really Goes on Behind School Doors?
When the classroom is no longer a safe space for her child, a grieving mother is determined to seek justice for her bullied daughter. Enter hard-charging attorneys Angela Evans and Jenny Ungerman. From the start, the two lawyers face more than an uphill battle.
An ambitious school principal is far more concerned about protecting her career than getting to the truth. She flat out denies any knowledge of the bullying and prefers to sweep everything under the rug. But just how low will she go?
As the battle enters the courtroom, the attorneys fight hard to expose the truth. But will a massive coverup hinder their quest for justice?

Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Talk to your babies. Set an environment that allows them to speak freely.
You can't act if you don't know.
If you are in a position to care for and or nurture a kid, put yourself in the child's place. Ask yourself, how you would like to be protected.

Excellent read
The book kept me interested. The story line tied in perfect with the message/theme. School use to be a place we could trust the teachers, principal, administrators. As a matter of fact their word was the gospel. We are our children only advocate, let’s not fail them.

Sad but not surprising...
I was so happy to see a book written by Pamela Samuels Young! It’s been a few years since I’ve listened to anything by her. Since all of her previous books had been narrated by R C Bray, I was a little disappointed that he wasn’t the narrator however I do think Larry Herron did a very good job.
This story is very well written. I felt like it gave me quite a bit of information on this topic as well as providing entertainment. This book is about children dying of suicide and the lengths schools will go to cover their neglect. The publisher’s summary gives more than enough information so I won’t elaborate.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book especially to anyone with young children.

A warning to the world
As always Pamela has snatched the blinders off of a subject that plagues every school. children can be so cruel to one another and it is up to not only the parents but the educators who are sworn to protect them.

Awesome read
This book hits on every point. The writing is well done. The story flows well. The plot is relevant and takes the reader/listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride drawing you into the lives of each character. Plot twists keep you guessing until the end. I highly recommend this novel.
The narrator gave a beautiful performance. He tone was clear and adjusted appropriately for each character.

Difficult subject matter handled well
Pamela Samuels Young had not released a book in 26 months before FAILURE TO PROTECT. In this legal thriller she takes on what she calls bullycide; in this case it's about a 9 year old girl who is being relentlessly bullied at school and on social media kills herself. The school literally does nothing to protect her. The principal is more interested in protecting the reputation of her school than protecting her students. The dead girl''s mother sues and the principal hides evidence.
FAILURE TO PROTECT is about a cause, bullycide, the author has adopted. The subject matter is difficult to listen to.
There are approximately 25 authors that I will read/listen to all books they write. Pamela Samuels Young is one of those authors in my favorites category. I recommend all ten of her novels.
The prior nine novels by Young were narrated by RC Bray who is one of the premier male narrators. Larry Herron, a relatively inexperienced narrator was selected for this novel. He does an outstanding job.

Review by reader Brenda Leake, member Reading Divas book club
WOW this novel was an testimony to the saying “What goes around comes around “
When I started reading Failure To Protect by Pamela Samuels Young, I had just completed Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, I said to myself ,”Oh no , another novel about the repercussions of bullying “. However, as I began reading the book containing 101 chapters , I became intrigued by the approach of the subject, it was different from Nineteen minutes , even though similar in some cases, and as continued reading, I started listening to it in order to accomplish other responsibilities and meet the deadline of our next book club meeting, as the twists and turns unfolded, I could not stop listening. I carried my cellphone and IPad everywhere!
The cover ups by the school staff and the Mother’s persistence in the fight for justice for her nine year old daughter who took her own life because of bullying, reminded me of a news report right here in the District of Columbia last year at a charter school. When I listened to the news of the young girl it was heart wrenching. Pamela’s novel describes characters in depth causing me to experience that same sadness. The writer sheds light on real life , horrific truths about our world today; decisiveness, the mean spirit of our youths , the social media frenzy, the misuse of authority, the dishonesty of people, the fear of losing a job, the superiority complex of people and the lack of compassion . All of those traits were brought to the forefront.
The fact that despite all of the negativity touched on, there were characters with hope, compassion, intuition, truthfulness, and the morality of following laws completely and the unending love for family and friends . Both ends of the spectrum delved into and displayed the author’s compelling ability to write a captivating story about the subjects!
The epilogue and author’s notes included factual information and where parents and victims can seek help.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first read of a book written by Pamela Samuels Young.

Sad Reality
Pamela Samuels Young is one of my favorite authors. I hate that her collection isn't longer. All of her books are entertaining and real. This story was sad but there was enough entertainment to keep you engaged and not too sad although the story is a sad one. Great job on this one, Now the narrator.... was not the best but he was just ok. RC Bray has a great story telling voice and I know he would've added great value to an already best seller. I look forward to more books in the future.
