About this listen

After more than twenty years away from the law, Joe Hennessy is forced back into the courtroom.

Trying to save his vineyard after years of drought, Hennessy returns to practice in Charleston, South Carolina–the city he walked away from after the murder of his ten-year-old son.

When one of South Carolina's most powerful men is charged with possessing stolen artwork, Hennessy steps forward to defend him. But as Hennessy digs into the evidence, as he navigates the truth, he finds that the criminal charges are only the start of their problems…

Despite his full workload, Hennessy takes on the defense of a young woman charged with stabbing her ex-boyfriend in a violent rage. As he prepares for the trial, he discovers there's more to the case than is presented by the prosecution.

While the cases twist and turn, Hennessy fights to prove that both clients are innocent. But to expose the truth, he must take one of the most dangerous risks of his life.

Can he ensure that justice triumphs? Or will the cases send him to an early grave?

I really enjoyed this book! The NARRATOR IS SUPERB. SUPERB. SUPERB. Did I say SUPERB? I hope the same guy is on all the other books. Well written - just a joy. And not a BIT of FOUL LANGUAGE. 10 STARS

Good plot

The book was fine, enough to keep me engaged and to think about picking up the next book, but nothing about it really stood out. The first half of the book honestly read more like a detective story than anything, which is not really what you’d like out of a legal thriller. At no point did I feel like Joe was an actual lawyer. The author tried to give him this tough edge making him come across as a private investigator, a detective maybe, but nothing to indicate that he was a lawyer first and foremost or even cared about the spirit of the law. Nothing about the little details about being in court. Very little strategy discussion. Lacking in detail about legal proceeding, court motions, or even his opinion on the cases. The cases themselves were fairly simplistic and quite forgettable. And the final courtroom scene was like something out of a bad tv police show, think a Castle court scene rather than Law & Order.

Extremely Average
