Editorial reviews

Renowned Danish author Hans Christian Andersen has inspired movies, statues, and even theme parks. Though his fairy tales weren't immediately embraced by the reading public upon their publication, the world has since made up for its lapse in judgment, as Andersen's name is now virtually synonymous with children's literature.

Actress Angele Masters performs the beloved stories in this collection in a lively, bright English accent to which both children and adults can relate. Her voice sustains the 40-plus hours of narration required to bring life to all these fairy tales. The stories are arranged in somewhat idiosyncratic alphabetical order, beginning with "A Story" and ending with "The Story of the Year".

hard to get through

not sure if it was the narrator or the stories but I honestly just could not wait till this book ended and when it finally did I was happy to be done with it. some stories were so interesting but came across as boring if that makes sense.

Fairy Tales

I don't remember these Fairy Tales being so dark. I think I prefer lighter tales.

Clasic Anderson Fairy tales

Wow, a complete colection of these gems narrated by a good narrator.. At least 4 stars, right..well, we live in a generation with SOME people who are absolutely childish in heart and mind. ( not childlike). to not prefer this translation is fine, to then give it 1 star is simply what a little brat does. to think it would be nice to have a intro to each story ( something I would have found irritating) is fine, to then give 2 stars is a brat.
so don't pay attention to these fools or there negative reviews..I think I'm balanced on a review..
so I feel this is a MASSIVE COLLECTION. it can be a bit overwhelming..I use the trick of not listening to too many stories in one go.
The narrative is well done, good voices for different characters. I personally give her 4 stars. she's not bad at all, it's just there are better.
well chaptered..
so it's a GREAT COLLECTION..HOPE YOU ENJOY..

Names of stories included.

I almost didn't purchase the book because of some misleading reviews. The book comes with the list of stories.

first time ever reading the classics!

Definitely interesting! I don't agree with everything he wrote doctrinally but he was so creative he captures and hold your mind and heart story after story. Definitely a reread and want to purchase a classic edition.

Enjoyed listening to Hans C. Andersen Fairytales!

Great stories, listening like this made me realize what a heart for God this man had. I loved hearing the narrator use different voices. Also I loved hearing the Islands of Denmark pronounced in the Danish way. I lived there for 3 months and it was great to picture places he described! What fun. Also, each chapter was titled so we can know which fairy-tale is being performed! Loved this audio book!

Terrible narration

Aside from the on going problem with long books and audible (non-existence of chapter titles, impossiblity to find a story of your choice, bad transition between stories), this book had another huge issue for me. The narrator does not suit me. Every story sounds the same. Every character sounds like a child or a woman, it is sooo confusing when you're supposed to be imagening a grown up male. And the narration is boring. I was so disappointed.

Run on fairytales

I was excited to have a full collection of Hans Christian Andersen’s writings however, a pause and an introduction between stories would have been nice.
