Publisher's summary

With news of Horus' treachery spreading across the galaxy, the Great Crusade grinds to a halt as the primarchs and their Legions decide where their loyalty lies - with the Emperor or with the rebel Warmaster.

The Dark Angels, too, face a time of testing, both among the stars and on their home world, Caliban. Luther, once Lion El'Jonson's trusted second-in-command, now languishes as an exile in all but name while his master struggles to thwart the traitors' advance upon the forge world Diamat. But an ancient evil gathers its strength beneath the surface of Caliban, and the First Legion will soon be thrust into a deadly conflict where all that they know will be cast into doubt.

Great Dark Angel book

I love all the action, always something happening. Really loved the character build up, the Techmarine is God tier imo.

For the Lion!

Such a great tale! Horus' Heresy knows no bounds, the epilogue makes certain of that.

Overall the probably in the top three so far

Narrative wise I think this was one of the best written books. I was starting to think the series was getting a little too predictable. There are really some great revelations in the epilogue and the action isn't bad. Narration is mostly fault less except for some reason one of the main characters, a space marine, sound like a kid. Hard to take him seriously when he sounds like his next sentence is going start with "gee willikers, Lion El'Johnson, sir..." Small complaint though.

Make sure you read decent of angels first.

A definite good read but...

A definite good book but not so good narrator. Childish voices, and odd vocalisations overall.

A bit of a Mystery style book

It is a bit slow at times, not as action packed as some of the others but definitely filled with deception and mystery

a nice surprise

I was super happy that the story in book 6 was continued in this novel. When I first finished book 6 I was bummed out as it didnt seem like much happened but at the end of book 11 I do feel like the ending was much more memorable.

Fallen are those Angels

Unfortunately, you have to listen to Descent of Angels in order to appreciate this transformation of characters. A good listen with critical details to the heresy.
