About this listen

He’s not the only person I should be afraid of.
Someone wants me to enjoy this twisted ordeal.
I’m supposed to have faith in him. To feel safe.
To grow.
To blossom.

But how can I trust this voice from the past?
How can I trust him when he denies answers to all of my questions?

Why does he hurt me like this?
And why does it feel so unbelievably good when he does?
I’m addicted to his touch, and scared of the sinister mystery between us.

Nothing will change if I don’t grasp at the shred of power he’s willing to relinquish.

An advantage was given to me - and I better make good use of it.

This is the final part of a dark romance duet. Petal's story is now complete.

A little anticlimactic 😕

I thought the story had a lot of potential. The whole serial killer thing was really a nonissue. It didn’t provide any worth to the story. I think if the author took more time with that aspect of the story it could have been really interesting. The whole BDSM aspect to Petals personality also really wasn’t explained either. I think if we were given more background to that it would have made more sense. All in all I didn’t dislike the book but it kinda left you hanging.

Stunning!

Petal is still a captive under Jayson's control but she has seen a glimpse of the truth on video. It has given her a sense of security and enough knowledge to find the reasons for her imprisonment. Somehow she knows that J isn't a bad man, but he is deranged and unique. Being locked into a gilded prison isn't sinister, it provides safety. J continues to be an enigma, feared by some and heralded by others as a genius. He has great wealth and fame because of what he is able to do to save his patients' lives. Just what he does, however, isn't entirely clear. Bits and pieces of the past are starting to reveal themselves, especially when J takes Petal throughout his mansion. Simply touching a piece of furniture causes familiar scenes to play out before her eyes. As she slips into a trance-like state, everything becomes clear. But not everything is as it seems. The entire truth of what had Petal desperate to escape her life that hasn't yet been solved. I was so ready to see where Petal and J. went and what kind of a road they would travel. It was perfectly filled with eroticism and fear, mystery and new discoveries! The way the loose ends were all tied together made the story so fulfilling and gratifying. It was a joy to read!
The narration is beautifully done by Cindy Harden and Charlie Kevin. Their dynamic voices brought each of the characters to life!

It could have been so much better!

As soon as the cliffhanger of book one, of this duet, was finished. I immediately downloaded book two and continued. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure things out. What disappointed me was the way the resolution to the climax was explained through two short epilogues. The story would have been so much better if the reader/listener would have lived through the events immediately following the climax of the plot. I think that a couple of chapters that would have let events unfold, naturally, followed by a full epilogue of the future could have made this book a great book instead of a decent book.

I do want to note that had both halves of this, so called, duet had not been available and included in the Escape Package, I would have never listened to it. Why? Because, if you have read many of my reviews, you would have read about my feelings regarding authors that split a novel into two parts, for financial gain. In my opinion, this is an example of my pet peeve. Both parts together added up to about a 10 hour novel. If both halves would have been 10 hours each, then I might have considered it a true duet series.
