About this listen

Nothing is fair in war. Jonathan King is every bit his last name.

Powerful. Untouchable. Corrupted. He’s also my dead sister’s husband and way older than me.

When I first met him as a clueless child, I thought he was a god. Now, I have to confront that god to protect my business from his ruthless grip. Little did I know that declaring a war on the king will cost me everything. When Jonathan covets something, he doesn’t only win, he conquers. Now, he has his sights on me. He wants to consume not only my body, but also my heart and my soul. I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom.

Reign of a King is the first book of a duet and is not stand-alone.

So much potential but no storyline

This entire story could have been told in just a few chapters—it was a boy meets girl and that’s it story. There was no actual external plot or rise and fall or hiccup or anything of that sort. It only alluded to the one main issue with her father which doesn’t even get addressed in this story. It was a constant repeat of this same exact problem being mentioned over and over and except for one line in the last chapter-even that doesn’t get to involved—there really was no plot at all. And the “duet” should have been one book. It’s a shame because the entire series is amazing—it just feel forced that this was split into 2 books so unnecessarily. Plus a Majority of the sexual experiences were glossed over with several “it went on for 2 weeks like that” type lines.

Highly Addictive & Entertaining!

Evil or misunderstood? Jonathan King is the kind of character we all love to hate. We have been teased mercilessly throughout the Royal Elite series and now we finally get to see the man behind the mask. It’s dark and deliciously twisted and jam packed full of secrets and lies. This installment of Jonathan and Aurora’s story has so many unanswered questions. The cliffhanger ending left me screaming for more.

Another successful collaboration between Rina Kent, Shane East and Keira Stevens. Shane and Keira’s amazing voices makes each one of Rina’s wonderful characters resonate, taking this story to a whole other level.

Audio is Fabulous!

I Give this Book a 4-4.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 5.
Formats Read: Audiobook & Ebook
Review Updated (Dec. 2020) at Bottom! 😃

I need to express that I have been in an absolutely painful bookfunk, I couldn’t connect with anything so I was primarily rereading old books and forced myself to concentrate.
As soon as I saw that this Book was sent to my Kindle I breathed a sigh of relief, I knew it was my cure and matter of fact it was! I paused the book I was currently reading just to jump into this one.
I did not put this one down for a second! I was hooked from the very first page, I love how this book just flowed and I never had the urge to pull out of this book world just to take a breather, there’s a lot of breathing space to not feel overwhelmed, the suspense is (for me) insanely and is keeping me on my toes, I love Rina’s puzzles and I look forward to seeing them all come together!

Zero Spoilers.
Cliffhanger: Yes! And a Good one at that! I can wait to read the Next Book!
Pacing: it’s Mid to Mid Fast to Fast, the all the types of Pacing weirdly fit well within the book right where it needs to be.
Suspense: 5/5, Through the Roof with Suspense!
There’s so much I want to say right here but I Don’t like Giving away Spoilers when it’s a great book!
Drama: 4-4.5-5/5, it fits well I think when you read the book 😆
Relationship Type: MF
Heat: 4-4.5-5/5, there’s quite a bit of heated scene but also quite a bit of past tense heated scenes.
Which normally I don’t like cause I like to read the scenes, but it really fits this book and I love knowing there’s lots of heat going on.
Romance: 3.5-4/5, I want to add the 4 so I’m gonna add the 4. Jonathan & Aurora fit extremely well together, and there’s so many questions I hope get answered!
This book is sooooo good! And its better (at least for me) than I was anticipating, I really need to see what’s gonna happen in the conclusion!
I’m highly anticipating Book 2!
Dark(?): 3/5

Update: Dec. 2020
Audiobook Review:
Overall: 5/5!
Performance & Quality: 5/5!!
Seriously! This book is read best as an Audiobook 😍 it was great to sit back and jump back into this duet & listen this one, sometimes some books are ‘read’ even better when you’re hearing it 😆
Love this one! Keira Stevens & Shane East did an excellent job in this one!
It is so good(!!) and everything was easier to picture, that I’m raising the ‘Listing as’ Star Rating from 4 to 5.
Gonna jump and Listen to the Next Book! ☺️

Amazing and intriguing

I love the character of Jonathan King. He is so complex and passionate and sexual. I feel sorry for all Aurora. She’s so broken unable to know who she is. Cannot wait to hear the second part of this journey.

Love is never easy when Rina writes it

I’ve really enjoyed getting some background into the man that Jonathan is and why he acts the way he does. There were some very eye opening moments. I love the age gap factor in this story along with the ever slight taboo theme of Aurora being with her deceased sisters older husband. I hope there is more info bout Auroras dad in the next book as that seems like a very interesting turn. Kierra and Shane are fabulous as always. Kierra really narrates emotion so incredibly well and Shane has this ability to just bring you into the story with his inflections. Love that it’s narrated in duet.

Finally Johnathan King’s story

Yes finally we get to Daddy Johnathan King’s story and it does not disappoint. Aurora the splitting image of his dead wife and her half sister. He wants her and she is trying to get to the mystery surrounding her sisters death. The mystery of her murderous father and what it was like growing up alone and an outcast. Book one ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see how their story ends.

Reign of a King

I liked this book but I didn’t love it that’s the reason for the four stars but…Something kept pulling me back to continue listening and now I need to listen to the next book to fairly evaluate it as a whole. Let’s hope it ends in a HEA.

Perfection

When I heard that Rina was going to extend this amazing series by writing about Jonathan King, I was not too excited about it because he was such a jerk. I, in fact, thought it was going to be a prequel to the Royal Elite series telling us about Jonathan’s early life and how he became the man he is today. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!

I loved this book! I loved Aurora’s feistiness, and how she feared Jonathan, but also didn’t put up with his crap. But... my absolutely favorite person was the best friend, Layla, and her “daddy” issues. She made me laugh and want to be friends with her. Ha ha. She always threatening to beat Jonathan up if he hurt her friend was priceless. I want her to get a story!

The narration was perfection! It the best audiobook series I have listened to and that’s saying a lot! Shaun and Kiera made these amazing characters come to life. It felt like I was watching a movie in my head.

I totally recommend this series, but start with Cruel King first.
