“Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.
I believed them. That was my mistake.
There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.
I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster.
For two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, Subject Six-Eight-Four - ‘Jane Doe’ - has been locked away and experimented on, without uttering a single word.
As Jane’s resolve begins to crack under the influence of her new - and unexpectedly kind - evaluator, she uncovers the truth about Lengard’s mysterious ‘program’, discovering that her own secret is at the heart of a sinister plot...and one wrong move, one wrong word, could change the world.

Critic reviews
"Compulsively readable, compellingly narrated, and so full of twists and turns that I couldn't put it down until I'd turned the final page. I loved every sentence of Whisper." (Sarah J. Maas, #1 New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of the Throne of Glass series)
"A gripping and heart wrenching tale. I was enthralled." (Maria Snyder, New York Times best-selling author)

However, that will depend on the scriptwriters and director, picking up the books arguable shortfalls, given the intended YA audience.
I don't really know what's missing as the overall plot is believable, just predictable. It lacks grit and substance.
For example, inferred pivotal moments which should be captivating and engrossing, were often vague and disjointed. What feels like critical elements seem implausible, cringeworthy or at least dubious.
Characters seem superficial, bland and unrelatable. I don't really feel a connection and find I crave something horrid to happen to a significant character that will irrevocably alter expectations.
Perhaps, though I'm Australian, I hate our accent, especially in audiobooks. We sound awful! I wouldn't be surprised if future adaptation(s) are set elsewhere (ie. North America, or utilise American actors).
At the same time, I'm exceptionally proud of this Aussie author. This is one of her many fantastic series. (Oxymoron or I'm just a moron, you decide!)
All that being said, I really liked this book and can't wait to continue the series.
Note: This book is intended for YA audience, so please disregard the above comments as necessary! Though, I did try to take this into consideration. Whilst I have not been a "youth" for a very long time, I enjoy (& seek) many YA novels from all genres, for my own listening entertainment and to recommend to my own YA children.
So, just to reiterate, I really did enjoy this book. I hope you do too!
This will be a Hollywood movie one day!
