About this listen

Meet Amy Winter: Detective Inspector, daughter of a serial killer.

DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart.

Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy’s biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims - but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game.

While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies.

But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?

Great story...awful twist

This book was so great! Up until the last 15 minutes. No spoilers, but the twist at the end was so unnecessary, not to mention unbelievable. But apart from that it was a great read.

Good Enough but Not Great, Ho Humm

This is an okay mystery - kind of interesting at first but it slowed way down towards the end and then just seemed to come to a less than interesting conclusion. Not bad, not too good either.

Riveting. Packed with details related to the plot as it evolves.

I couldn’t put this down. I read 100s of mysteries. So many potboilers around. So this book was what’s worth reading.

Great potential but...

So much potential! She kept asking herself questions but as a good detective, she should have been able to find the answer. Good reader but wrong one for this genre...too posh. I don’t plan to listen to book 2.

Unexpected Ending

Just when you think you have it all figured out, you’ll find out you’re wrong. Great story. Brilliantly written so that I could picture exactly what was happening in my mind as I read. The narrator was terrific. She did an excellent job emphasizing all of the characters. I’m definitely going to check out Book 2 of this series.

Great New Series to Discover

Every so often you search for a new series to get into, and I’m glad I found this one. It is a little dark and some creepiness here and there, but overall it’s exciting and the characters do build a connection. I was just annoyed at one thing that almost demoted my rating to 4 toward the last 3 hours. I won’t say what it is, but why do you have to take a perfectly good strong character and make her act like an idiot? Geez, while women might be willing to be open minded, we are not so foolish. Apart from that one serious character flaw, I really did enjoy the book. Two signs I like a book and writer: one-I stay up way past my bedtime to finish, and two-I’m already looking to see if there is another book in the series to download and listen. Both happened here. So I recommend this book to start the series. If you like detective, intrigue, drama and suspense, you’ll enjoy this listen. I also enjoyed the narrator.
