About this listen

Arlington, Connecticut, police detective John Russo is responsible to a fault. When his girlfriend got pregnant, he married her. When she walked out on the marriage, he committed himself to raising their son alone. But when his babysitter has a family emergency and must fly to California, John's carefully rigged existence comes crashing down. He needs help, and fast.

Molly Saunders co-founded the Daddy School to help men become better fathers. She wants to help John, not just by providing a space for his two-year-old son in her preschool but also by teaching him how to deal with his son's demands - and teaching him that despite the occasional brutality of his work, he can still be a loving, vulnerable man.

When it comes to learning the skills he needs to raise his son well, John is an A student. But Molly's lessons in love prove much more challenging.

Can a man who conceals a gun inside his undercover Santa Claus costume actually be the gentle, sensitive man of Molly's dreams?

Any additional comments?

Father Christmas is book 2 in "The Daddy School" series. This time we meet John Russo and his son Michael. John has to find childcare for his son after their nanny leaves to tend to her own daughter and grandchild. Enter Molly Saunders, the director of the Children's Garden Preschool, and teacher at the Daddy School. Molly helps fathers of toddlers understand their children and gives them tips and tricks to be better fathers.John is newly divorced and not looking for love. Molly is attracted to John but is uncomfortable with the fact that his is a cop and carries a gun. Only time will tell if this is a match that will work out.

Ms. Arnold continues the "Daddy School" series with this book. I really enjoyed how Molly taught her classes and gave the fathers ways of being there for their children. John is a very reserved and responsible man and he has to come out of his shell in order to work with his son.

Mr. Dheere continues narrating this series and doesn't disappoint. While this story is a romance, the male leads are very strong, almost more so than the female leads. Mr. Dheere gives each character meaning and I especially enjoyed his characterization of Michael and makes him come alive. There is only one book left in the Daddy School series. I'm sad to say that I don't want this series to end.

I would recommend this story to my friends who enjoy a good quality romance with strong male and female characters.

Daddy School

I liked the story line of this series, but I'm having trouble with the endings of both this one and the previous one.
In both books, it sort of just ends. There are situations that need to be finished. Ex: both John and Molly just rush out of the daycare and no mention of who's going to take care of Michael. Also, in both books they say "I love you" and it ends. It was an emotional let down with none of their issues really settled. I just feel each book needs a little more. Both books #1 and #2 need and epilogue to bring the books to a better emotional conclusion...at least for the reader. I was really into each story and then suddenly felt like I was left hanging.

Another hit for Judith Arnold!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! I would recommend this whole series! I really am enjoying listening to her books. Her books tend to be more about real life than most & very believable!

What other book might you compare Father Christmas to and why?

I don't like to compare books because if someone didn't like the book I compared it to, they would dislike this book without even trying it & that isn't fair!

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when John Russo & Molly Saunders caught the father who had kidnapped his little girl & was on the run with her!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes! I enjoyed the scene at Christmas when Molly was a little mad because John didn't get her a gift and John was playing her. He then went to the Christmas three to retrieve a gift they overlooked & it was for her!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I didn't think those two (Molly & John) were ever going to get together! It was really nice to see this book refer back to some of the characters in the 1st book too (Father Found)! The narrator in this book, Tom Dheere did a great job on the voices and the emotions! Tom did a superb job on Michael's voice (the 2 year old)!

Love These Books - Recommend As Stand Alone/Series

Would you listen to Father Christmas again? Why?

John is a local police detective and father to two-year-old Michael. After Michael's nanny is called away for a family emergency, John is desperate to find a good caregiver, right now.

Molly is one of the head honchos at the local daycare. She is at the front desk when this tall, overbearing, cold looking man enters your daycare and she glimpses the gun under his jacket. They make arrangements for Michael to answer the day care program immediately. However, she has reservations about this ultra serious man.

Will he be able to let his guard down? Will she be able to make this super responsible, down to earth guy smile just a bit?

My only quibble with this great book is the hyper phobia issue of guns. He is a trained professional whose job requires him to carry a firearm. The freaking out by almost every character was a bit over-the-top.

An excellent installment in the Daddy School series. I wish this series had a different name as Daddy School sounds a bit juvenile and the books are anything but. They are well-written, contemporary romances. Each can be read as alone and are enjoyable as a series.

I really hope that Judith Arnold continues with this series on audio and that Tom Dheere continues to narrate.

Dheere is an excellent performer, versatile and believable. From children two years old on to an elderly aunt and everything in between. His performance as female characters sound like female characters and the children sounds like children without being annoying. Excellent.

Upon reading listening to the first Daddy School book, I was hooked. I was also generously given credit in exchange for my review on all three books. I will continue to seek out the next book in the series and hope it comes soon. I will use one of my credits without thinking twice – they are this good.

Highly recommended

father christmas

It was alright. a little mediocre but tolerable. I didn't like the character, Molly. She was stupidly over reactive. I guess there are similar women out there. I'm just glad I don't associate with any I hope the next installment is as good as the first.
