About this listen

The year is 2042, and a long-predicted tipping point has arrived. For the first time in human history, the economic pyramid has flipped: The feeble old now outnumber the vigorous young, and this untenable situation is intensifying a battle between competing cultural agendas. Reporter Julia Davidson - a formerly award-winning journalist seeking to revive a flagging career - is investigating the growing crisis, unaware that her activity makes her a pawn in an ominous conspiracy. Plagued by nightmares about her absent father, Julia finds herself drawn to the quiet strength of a man she meets at a friend's church. As the engrossing plot of Fatherless unfolds, Julia will face choices that pit professional success against personal survival in an increasingly uncertain and dangerous world.

In the dystopian tradition of books like 1984, Brave New World, and The Hunger Games, Fatherless vividly imagines a future in which present-day trends come to sinister fruition. The second and third books in the series, Childless and Godless, will follow at eight-month intervals.

Frightening

I pray that God will intervene before the world gets to this dreadful place. But at the rate it is going the transition specialists will be unfeeling robots by the actual 2040’s. Dear God save us from ourselves!

Great Story, Voices are not creative

Would you consider the audio edition of Fatherless to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version

What did you like best about this story?

I like that it looks into the future of where liberalism could take this nation if we let them. Great concepts and interesting characters. More than one point of view.

What aspect of Bernard Setaro Clark’s performance would you have changed?

The mens' voices were pretty bad. They did not sound very natural at all. The women's voices were not very creative either.

Eye Opening!

I don’t typically like to read this genre, however, because Dr. Dobson was a part of its publishing I decided to try it. I’m so glad I did! This book was eye-opening to me in many ways. The story showed me how things will be in the future due to our selfish ways of thinking and living. It also made me aware of how the media and government try to control our perspective.

Excellent but...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. Only caveat - see additional comments.

What other book might you compare Fatherless to and why?

Well when I heard it I immediately thought of James Patterson, although it's nothing like those graphic serial killer books, or is it...?1984? No, not really that either. Unique to me!

Have you listened to any of Bernard Setaro Clark’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I thought I had, but it was someone else apparently. He's great!

Could you see Fatherless being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Absolutely!

Any additional comments?

My only complaint of this fantastic book is... the sexualization of women and obsession with their appearance. The odd thing is that I think that is part of the point. They seem to want to help you (without every saying it) realize this is terribly wrong in our culture and unhealthy to be so warped that women's looks are nearly all that matter, but then they do they thing they seem to disprove of. Nearly every woman is referred to this way judgementally, no so the men. The books becomes part of the real problem that could have been exposed. Or I'm imagining the good, and they are really just that obsessed with looks? If I hadn't listened to his radio program, I'd really lean toward the later. Otherwise, it would have most likely been five stars across the board. Even so I would not discourage anyone from listening to it at all.

Outstanding. On the edge of my seat drama.

The story captivated me & kept me intrigued. Line by line, chapter by chapter. I eagerly wanted to know what would happen next. The narrator changes his voice for each character & showed inflection that drew me completely into the story. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger or fill-in-the-blanks. It was packed with drama from beginning to end, telling a tale that may become possible if current world & national trends stay on their present course. Highly recommend.

Right For Our Times

Unfortunately, I think the writers are absolutely correct. And in light of the recent elections we see this kind of vitriol being played out on both sides of the aisle. This is, I'm afraid, where we are heading. Just started book 2.

Make it a movie! Make it a movie!

Where does Fatherless rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 3

What did you like best about this story?

These authors produced a masterful work of fiction that shows what life inlooks like in the future when society refuses to be governed by God's Word. What's right becomes wrong and what's wrong is somehow altered into what's right. Value and sanctity of life slowly diminishes from people's awareness. The mind blowing part is that this story was also created using data that demographers use to calculate projections about population in the future.

Which scene was your favorite?

I lost my breath during the scene when Matthew (I think it's Matthew) the care taker choses not to switch his clients oxygen tank and walks out of clients home knowing he got away with murder. Sharing God's truth angered the kid So much he committed murder to stop himself from having to hear he follows a lie.

If you could rename Fatherless, what would you call it?

No other title would work

Any additional comments?

What an amazing film series this could become with a movie director whose a gifted and talented visionary!

They don't make movies like this anymore though

Well written & narrated!

If you could sum up Fatherless in three words, what would they be?

It's my first real audiobook and it really helps kill the monotony when I drive to work and back in the slow traffic. The different voices for different characters were helpful.

Which character – as performed by Bernard Setaro Clark – was your favorite?

I like Kevin Tolbert's presentation of the facts and his proposals (chapter 16) which was simple to follow and realistic enough to believe.
