About this listen

Politicians fight like cats and dogs, but when things take a deadly turn at the Virginia House of Delegates, Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen calls on her beloved pets to help her crack the case and stop the fur from flying in this latest mystery from Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author Sneaky Pie Brown.

Spring flowers may be about to bloom in Crozet, Virginia, but Harry is thinking about snow. Her dear friend Ned Tucker is in the House of Delegates, advocating for a bill to improve road clearing during bad weather, and Harry and Ned’s wife, Susan, have gone down to the statehouse to support him. Tensions are high between political parties, and no one can agree on anything for long enough to get something done.

The bill’s chief detractor is the glamorous Amanda Fields, a former newscaster turned delegate whose flair for the dramatic has earned her a formidable reputation—and made her more than a few enemies. Amanda’s claws-out approach to politics might have some of her colleagues wishing she was dead, but the statehouse is rocked when one of the young pages who assists the delegates dies under mysterious circumstances.

Could his death be related to the political infighting? Or is something even more sinister threatening the lives of Virginia’s finest representatives? With help from her feline sidekicks, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, as well as Tee Tucker the corgi and Irish Greyhound Pirate, Harry is determined to find the answers and restore order once more to the Capitol.

An excellent snapshot of state politics in VA. I loved the use of the code to solve the mystery.

I listen to these books to escape real life, especially in the times of such catastrophic political stress. So when I discovered immediately that this book was taking me into the same situation I was trying to escape. I almost returned the book without finishing it.

Felt unfamiliar. Not enough of the 4 legged s like Mrs Murphy, Simon, Tucker, Pirate, king rat, the two beautiful gal friends

Few reg. Characters

There were a lot of twists in this particular however.
However, several of the twists were never truly completed. Which kind of left me a little wanting. Usually the ending is much more locked down. Then then this particular was but maybe that's indications of another novel coming soon

bit of a departure for Rita Mae Brown.

Much of this book is what I believe is happening. Let’s pray for our nation.

Followers of this book series have most likely experienced the decline in the "mystery" part of this series as I have. The characters have taken to lengthy and unnecessary conversations which add little to the plot or character building. In this episode, there is little animal interaction, no 1776 storyline and Aunt Tally was in love with Harry's grandfather Larry. Who's Larry? Did the author mean Biddy? The author REALLY stretched to bring Harry into the plot and none of it worked, in fact the "mystery" part of the book didn't start until chapter 33.

I really miss the Wish You Were Here and Paydirt days. These newer books aren't really worth reading. If the author is running out of ideas, go back and rewrite everything but make Harry the murderer in every book. Her pets can be a figment of her imagination and she can be Crozets serial killer who artfully pins every one of her murders on someone else.

Boring with lack of continuity

There's enough politics in the real world , I don't want to listen to it in my book , overall I didn't like the book too good.

no politics please

This is the first book I couldn’t get into. The point? The mystery? I missed the interwoven historical story, the participation of the animals, the community friends who made very brief appearances. Disappointed.

What was the point of this story?
