Publisher's summary

If you are a true believer, Satan hates you because you bear the image of Christ and because you were snatched from his power. You deserted Satan, and he wants you back. He wants to sift you like wheat. While we should not overestimate Satan's power, to our peril we underestimate an enemy who is living, intelligent, resourceful, and cunning.

Every Christian is in a battle that is fierce, spiritual, and necessary between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to know the enemy, his personality, his strategies, his weaknesses, and his defeat at Calvary and his final judgment.

In a day when society has in many ways placed itself under Satan's rule, when Satanism is flourishing in Western nations, when certain branches of the church are preoccupied with deliverance ministries, and when others deny the devil's existence, Fighting Satan is a sober, practical perspective on this vital subject. Joel R. Beeke states, "We must know our enemy.... We must know how to withstand him and what spiritual weapons to take up against him. We must defeat him by faith through lives that bear fruit and spread the truth."

With questions for reflection and discussion at the close of each chapter, Fighting Satan is ideal for group and individual Bible study.

Highly recommended

I found this book to be chock full of practical and powerful spiritual truths written by what seems to be a modern day Puritan and chock full of true puritan biblical wisdom.

A MUST for Every Christian

The minor mispronounced words stood out slightly, limited tone of voice made it a little dry, but the information of this book is absolutely priceless! Every serious Christian needs to read this book!

A Must Read

A very needful book in the Christian's life, as we encounter spiritual warfare on a daily basis! We must remember that Satan hates God and the Christian and that we are no match for him. This book should be listened to frequently, at least once a month.

Fantastic

A wonderful book on how to fight in the Christian life. It is a book every Christian should read regularly. I was in the marine corps for 8 years. In that time my unit studied our enemies and got the upper hand in how to fight and win. You are a fool to not try and understand the spiritual enemies you face in your Christian walk. I highly recommend this book!

Too much

To start, I’m not going to change your mind and your not going to change mine. That being said I will do my best to give a fair review of this work.

Pros: the author is obviously a knowledgeable theologian who has studied the Bible intensely. A lot of religious people I speak with have never even read the Bible cover to cover, but the author uses many citations and key examples from scripture and I greatly appreciate that because he backs up his argument. For puritan fundamentalists this work makes a good case for “fighting Satan.”

Cons: this book is utterly pointless. If you’ve read the Bible you understand that God has already defeated Satan and cast him into Hell for eternal suffering. Christ died for your sins and to except Jesus into your heart as lord and savior is the way to God, not having an ongoing battle with Satan. I say this book is pointless because Satan has already been defeated. You don’t even need to read a book like this if you have already read the Bible and if you have not I do NOT recommend starting with a work such as this. Go to the source first.

Keeping from sin is a personal choice and when people claim that Satan is such a strong force in our world seems like a cop-out. Free will was given to Man by God and Man is responsible for his own actions. Be a good person and live a humble life without all this fundamentalism, but please at least read the doctrine cover to cover before deciding to lead a specific type of religious life.

In conclusion for those who believe that Satan is real let me offer you this incredible passage from the good book itself:

Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
