About this listen

The World Trade Center tragedy, the Oklahoma bombing, the sarin-gas attack in Japan, raise grave questions: Where did this rising tide of terror come from? Is it here to stay? How can this new terrorism be stamped out?

In this newly revised edition of Fighting Terrorism, Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Israel's Likud Party and a noted authority on international terrorism, offers a compelling approach to understanding terrorism.

Citing diverse examples from Germany, France, Italy, and elsewhere, Netanyahu demonstrates that domestic terrorist groups are usually no match for an advanced technological society, which can successfully control terror without any significant curtailment of civil liberties. But Netanyahu sees an even more potent threat from the new international terrorism that has emerged recently. From Beirut to Buenos Aires to Manhattan, it is increasingly the product of Islam militants, who draw their inspiration and directives from Iran and its growing cadre of satellite states.

The spread of fundamentalist Islamic terrorism, coupled with the possibility that Iran will soon acquire nuclear weapons, poses a more frightening threat from an adversary less rational and therefore less controllable than was the Soviet Union. How democracies can defend themselves against this new threat concludes this innovative and concise work.

Highly recommend to anyone interested in the problem of international and domestic terrorism

Perhaps more now than ever, this book’s message is one readers in any civilized nation need to take to heart. State sanctioned terrorism is once again being depicted in the media as poor children being attacked by the militaries of ruthless nations. As most of us know, nothing is further from the truth.

One point of argument i have with Netanyahu’s recommended actions is that undermining the right to bear arms leaves a populace more at risk from terrorist attack than it would have otherwise been. We’ve all seen terrorists in London fought off by a hero with a narwhal tusk. We’ve heard of criminals defeated by a hero in Australia wielding a milk crate. Should civilized nations not allow their citizens to exercise self defense with something a little more purpose made?

Netanyahu is spot on, despite the time that has passed since this book was released.

Great Book

Benjamin Netanyahu gives a lot of history. His insights and ideas are intelligent. Whenever we start to feel beat down by terrorism we should remember his lessons contained in this book.

Big government dream

Free societies are inherently dangerous. His suggestions for the United States are simply horrific, and would lead to the utter destruction of our freedoms!

Interesting

This book is an interesting read and definitely written from an extremely pro Zionist perspective.

Some very useful securo-cratic nuggets and some significant flaws.

The tone of this book strikes me quite a bit like the tone and tenor of the books of Alan M Dershowitz.

I was quite taken by the writer's (for me) offensively disparaging comments about Frantz Fanon and Jean-Paul Sartre.

And the book is useful to understand the mind of a Zionist hawk.

Fascinating & Relevant

While I don’t agree with all of Mr. Netanyahu’s assertions. This audio book will cause you to look at the Arabs living in Israel (particularly the West Bank and Gaza) in a different light. If even a fraction of his statements are true then the so-called Palestinian cause is much more sinister then the media would have you believe. This work is very applicable to the situations now facing the United States.

Well written from the author's perspective.

Obviously, the author has the credentials to speak on this issue, and he conveys his perspective very well. The first 3/4 of the book are very well written and provide a very good insight into terrorism. However, the last 1/4 of the book becomes very biased, as could be expected.

An Expert Willing to Teach. Pay Attention!

One: Do NOT negotiate with a terrorist.
Two: Preempt action saves lives!

Isreal has fought this war from the time of the Everlasting Hatred. Again a national entity, with all the rights and responsibility of a sovereign country, Isreal has learned, you keep a standing army. You arm your men, teach your women self and national defense.

We value freedom here in America, but we are incredibly stupid. We train our own enemy! (by allowing those who stated allegiance is not the United States to serve in our military!) We have the capacity to monitor treasonous actions, but provide sanctuary by refusing to monitor actions. Freedom of speech, it's required to have freedom- but to allow someone to spew hatred and incite anger, resentment and adverse action costs us that right. This country was build upon freedom of religion, but we take it too far, by permitting terrorism to be claimed as a religious entity. Very simply, jihad is war, and all Muslims are required to actively participate. I think that's hard to understand, because I have always thought, well, they can think, speak and believe what they want. But, why then must I allow that freedom when it obviously restricts my own?

Gaza is absolutely the proof we need. Israel has had nothing but problem after problem, because they are giving in to the demands of organized terror. Sanctuary is given. Suicide bombers are trained and sent (but those sending them will not go!)

Although this book is older, you need to listen. Entebe happened; Timothy McVeigh happened. The World Trade Center in 1993 (we now can add 2001) happened. You have an expert willing to teach you. If for no other reason than respect for a war veteran, spend the time to listen.

The narrator made listening easy. I enjoyed the pace, the tone. It is very suited to the subject, interesting, but still sober and calm.

Interesting perspective

At the 20 year anniversary of 9/11, this book seems very relevant and needed. The principles are important. Narrator was mediocre, sometimes pronouncing words incorrectly.
