The Series Gets Worse as it Progresses

Most spy novels require a healthy ability to suspend reality, but the Brady Hawk series really stretches the boundaries. The series started out OK, but as it progressed, the plots grew more ridiculous and the writing grew sloppier and sloppier. The text is full of exposition, probably in order to turn what should have been a short story into a novel. The author continuously uses improper terms (clips instead of mags or magazines is the most irritating), and overuses words (agape, sauntered, lumbered). By the end of the series, the writing is just plain bad. In addition, the narrator mispronounces words on a regular basis (bespeckled, instead of bespectacled, affixed pronounced with a long a, among others), and the accents he uses are almost comical.

My recommendation? Stop reading this series at around book five. The rest isn’t worth your time or your money.
