Publisher's summary

The one handbook thousands of fire officers and firefighters look to for safe, fireground-tested strategies and tactics!

With this fourth edition, Chief John Norman once again offers lessons learned during his extensive and time-honored career. In his highly enjoyable style, Chief Norman imparts his wisdom and experience by offering advice informed by actual outcomes from the fireground and tying all the elements together into an understandable big picture. This guide continues to be invaluable for firefighters aspiring to the officer level and those seeking to promote safety and effectiveness in their organization and the communities they serve by improving their own skills.

Divided into two parts - "General Firefighting Tactics" and "Specific Fire Situations" - Fire Officer’s Handbook of Tactics, 4th Edition begins with establishing the ground rules for structural firefighting and then moves on to specific situations, dealing with fires and emergencies in the most common structures and occupancies. Fire Officer

Great information, and surprisingly suitable for listening considering it is a textbook. I would recommend for any firefighter or fire officer.

Great information for those looking for a leg up but can’t do the formal training

I serve on a 100% volunteer department in a small town in west Texas. I have a professional career that prevents me from attending a fire academy so I soak up as much training as I can from any source available. While much of the information covered in this book does not apply to what we deal with here in my service area, a lot of it does. As an all volunteer department, we never know who will be available to respond when the tones drop. We all need to be prepared to fill any and every roll at any time. What I learned from this book will definitely help me and my team perform better and stay safe when we are called to the scene of a fire or accident. Great book from a man who has seen and experienced a lot. I highly recommend it to anyone in the fire service.

Fantastic

Read third edition when I got promoted to lieutenant. Listened to fourth edition to prepare for captain assessment center. Probably got the most out of it by listening. Invaluable.

Really Good Reference

Tremendous reference that’s full of proven techniques and wisdom. Although, after many hours of listening to the book, I did find myself hearing it in the voice of Christopher Walken.
