Publisher's summary

What exactly did dear old mum get up to before I was born?

I was supposed to be going to Harvard on a full ride. I’ve always been excellent at chemistry. Turns out my knack for chemicals was because my mum is a witch and a potions master. Did I mention she summoned a demon for a ritual and Lucifer himself came? Can I tell you how weird it is to go from card carrying atheist to finding out Satan is your dad? Harvard is out. My magic was bound when I was a baby. Apparently, now I’m going to Fortuna Conservatory instead because once I’m unbound, I can cause hell on earth. Something about being the princess of Hell.

I’m engaged to be married to who I thought was my mother’s cat and a boy from my high school I’ve nicknamed Cockblocker. Oh, he’s actually a hellcat and I hate him. I’m trying to get out of it. My high school ex is a hellhound and he’s at Fortuna with me. He’s unusually interested in who my father is and would have known what I was when we were dating. In fact, there are two hellhound leaders here that are just a little too interested in dear old dad. I’m woefully behind in everything since I was raised as human. A green haired warlock has taken me under his wing to help me with magic. A vampire tutor was arranged for me by the woman who foretold my birth.

All the answers about me came in a vision to the hellcat’s mother, Lilith. She’s the one moving pieces in the background. She’s arranging marriages, choosing my classes, and putting people in my path. She’s also avoiding giving us any answers.

Can I navigate a magical school when I have no training, not kill this hellcat I’m engaged to, manage my crushes on the warlock and vampire, and still survive with two huge hellhounds sniffing around? Something big is happening. My birth wouldn’t have been foretold if it wasn’t. I need to unlock all of my gifts as half angel half witch because whatever is going on, I’ve only scratched the surface.

The narrator killed the story. Awful

If this series has any chance it needs to get a new narrator.
She made all the characters whiney and annoying. The character voices and accents... oh god it was painful to listen to . The male characters sounded more feminine then the female characters Hell for most of the book I thought one of the main boys was gay and I was shocked when he showed interest in the girl.
This really is just a mess and waste of money.

only got to chapter 10

I just couldn't listen to the narrator any more. Her emphasis and pronunciation were atrocious.

AMAZING

I was quickly drawn into this audiobook. The storyline never failed to keep me entertained. The narration was great. The narrator was able to do both male and female voices well. I'm looking forward to starting book 2 in the series!

Voice Perfomance OK, Story is Good, Writing OK

I liked the story overall, but the main character didn't seem realistic with her emotions about finding out her father is satan. She took it very well, and the story went really fast. I wish the story went more in depth, but the audiobook wasn't worth the price.

Make it stop!!!

The narrator KILLS this series. She has Lucifer sounding like a 95-year-old English lady(not shaming , I am English). The voice of the MC sounds like a petulant whiney middle school-aged tween. Every male character comes off way to feminine and does not match the writing style for the characters at all. It all throws off the whole "jive" of the book and sadly in that happening it effects with the connection to the characters we all look for in a good book. change the narrator for the FMC and add a male narrator since these books are all multiple POVs.

Love

I loved this book and all the mystery and drama. The characters bring all their own unique personality.

Disappointed

Love the premise of the story. But right from the very beginning it moved too quickly to get the meat of the story. The main character was too accepting of anything and everything presented to her. The narrator is not to my taste. She was too stilted and made listening not enjoyable. Her inflection was off throughout. After this series, since I’ve already paid for all of them, I will avoid any books read by her. The narrator can really make or break a story and this one is off putting - there are so many other narrators who do a great job, sadly, this one didn’t. I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue the series because of her.

Solid RH start

This is on a good typical RH path. Book 1 is no steam as the group starts to get to know one another. So far there are 3 in her harem (vampire, hellcat, warlock). There are hints that there will be more added in book 2 (incubus & helldog)
My biggest complaint is the narration. This book would have totally benefited with dual narration as the narrator doesn’t do male voices well.

love the book but not the narrated

wow i love this series I was so excited when I saw that came out on audible book.my excitement was short-lived as I started listening to the book. I really Place feedback but in this case I just had to write something about the narrator of the story and hope that when the second book comes out audible that it has improved. while the female voices we're done well when it came to lucifer I was hugely disappointed Lucifer. not only did he not sound like a male he sounded like a little old lady .

Excellent Storyline & Characters

Fire and Brimstone, the first book in the Fortuna Academy series, is well-written paranormal Reverse Haram romance. The storyline and characters are well developed and engaging. The world-building in this book is excellent, loaded with all sorts of supernatural creatures. All the components to make a great urban fantasy/paranormal story are present. The narration by Portia Kay Winters could've been better.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
