About this listen

Juan Cabrillo's first adventure with the Oregon - a state-of-the-art spy ship disguised as a nondescript lumber hauler - takes him and his crew into dangerous waters as they try to put Tibet back in the hands of the Dalai Lama by striking a deal with the Russians and the Chinese.

Cabrillo's gambling chip is a golden Buddha containing records of vast oil reserves in the disputed land. But first he'll have to locate - and steal - the all-important artifact. And there are certain people who would do anything in their power to see him fail....

Terrible narration

I thought the story was pretty good. The dialogue was forced and stilted at times, but the narration makes it actuall hard to listen to at times. Very interesting current parallels with Tibet now.

Good book, Bad Character Voices

Story was great, but some of the character voices were horrible.
Definitely miss Scott Brick narration on a Cussler book.

Great book, bad narrator.

As usual, Cussler wrote a great story. The narration, however, was terrible. Scott Brick is much better.

Bad actors

Not Clive Cusslers best work. The funky accents made it hard to take parts of the story seriously.

VERY MUCH CUSSLER

I've read or listened to several Oregon Files. This is the original, and no disappointment.

A three star read.

The Golden Buddha was rather hard to follow. The narrator did a good job with the story.

Story is a great start to the Oregon Files series

Having read about seven of the other books in the Oregon Files series, I find this book to be a great start. However, the narration is terrible. Scott Brick is a much better choice than J. Charles. I wouldn't recommend any book narrated by J. Charles based on his terrible performance in Golden Buddha.

Not Cussler's Best work.

I picked out this book because I've always heard so much about Cussler's work. I've either read or listened to a total of 8 books, and I sadly say that this one doesn't meet the standard I've come to expect from Cussler's. The Oregon files is, by far, my favorite series. The story wasn't bad, but it wasn't excellent either. I feel that he got so close to making the work better before he would stop and go back to the 2nd class book he could have written (Co-Written).

Great Story...Lackluster Narration

I truly enjoyed the story, but almost stopped listening because the narration was so poor. I would suggest redoing the book.
