About this listen

Eight-year-old Tessa Lee and her little brother, Travis, are left at a campground by their mother and her boyfriend, a crooked-nosed man named Goose. All the two children have is a tent, their bags of clothes, the firefly cloak they'd used for covers the night before, and a phone number printed in magic marker on Travis' back. Tessa Lee knows that her momma and Goose have skedaddled in a car with recently changed license plates. She just doesn't know why.

So begins a journey that will take Tessa Lee into the home of her grandparents, then off in search of the mother she longs for. Her quest is steeped in Southern atmosphere and characters: the owner of the cheesy boardwalk show where Tessa Lee finds her mother and loses her again; the bingo-playing grandmother who holds her close; the old man who thinks the CIA is after him and boards up his house. Running throughout, like threads in a cloak, are themes of guilt, loss, and reunion.

Good, but nothing I would recommend

first of all, thank you so much for the author and to everyone who put in all of the effort that made this publication possible. It was a nice story, but it was pretty superficial without a lot of deep character development.
Nice, but not memorable or extraordinary.

Firefly Cloak

Narrated well. Enjoyed the story. I was a little dissatisfied by the ending...seemed a bit sudden.

the narrator is great!

I really enjoyed the story. My only complaint is the music that ends the chapters is too loud and over takes the narrator. I really loved listening to the narrator though.

Wow!

Would you listen to Firefly Cloak again? Why?

I loved Jenna Lamia's voice for this character. I was really touched by how the siblings bonded and how the main character managed to keep her innocense for as long as she did. It was wonderful how the grandmother kept surprising Tessa Lee with how she accepted her friends and how forgiving she was. A beautiful story of love and family ties.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was the grandmother. She was determined to raise the children differently the second time around. When she was accepting of Tessa Lee's friend that showed how much she had changed.

What does Jenna Lamia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There is something in Jenna's voice that is so haunting. I have listened to just about everything that Audible sells that she's narrated, and have loved them all. Her southern dialect is just so perfect. Not everythingthing comes out as Georgia Peach like many other narrators do, but is regionally correct.

A Great Listen!

This is the 3rd book I have listened to with Jenna Lamia as the narrator. Her voice truly brings out the best in a book. A fantastic book.

The reader’s voice is mesmerizing…smooth when needed, great southern accent!

I liked this book a lot. The reader’s voice really helped to keep my imagination there in that time.

Beautifully read but an odd story.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I probably wouldn't recommend this book

Has Firefly Cloak turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I wouldn't say so.

What does Jenna Lamia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love to listen to Jenna Lamia. Her childlike southern voice is perfect for the character of Tessa Lee and her interpretation of the dialogue really brings the charactor to life.

Do you think Firefly Cloak needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I'm not sure if it needs a follow-up but it certainly needed more of an ending. The book was an emotional roller-coaster and it seems like there was no real ending, almost like the allotted letter count had been used up so the abruptly story ended.
