About this listen

In the far future, war comes suddenly as an enigmatic foe forces humanity into a struggle for survival. Both defender and aggressor must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve victory in this thought-provoking space opera.

The year is 2164. Humanity has slipped the surly bonds of its golden sun, and prospers as it finds a way across the stars. A new era of exploration dawns, its citizens asking the question eagerly: “Is there anyone out there?”

Now, the answer comes suddenly and violently, a surprise attack on a peaceful colony. Deadly conflict, long forgotten by the governments of Man, makes itself known once more.

New enemies emerge from the void: children of war, heirs to its terror and splendor. But this foe too has questions to answer, faced as it is with a civilization previously unimagined.

An innocent colonist struggles to survive; a pilot must reckon with a new reality. A veteran soldier studies a peculiar enemy. Two leaders, alike in dignity, attempt to command their peoples.

Through it all an ancient plan unfolds, the product of singular intent and repeated tragedy. Each shall find themselves cast into its machinations, be they agent, victim, or both.

I’m really sorry, but I had to shelf this as DNF, 33% into it. The book was all over the place. I wanted to like it. As a sci-fi enthusiast, I was able to picture what the author was writing in my imagination and I really enjoyed that. But having the book / story told from SEVERAL points of view, it felt like 5, even though the synopsis states two points of view was chaotic. I get that it’s an alien first contact book, and I get that the author wanted the alien contacts coming in at multiple POVs, but it just feels really disorganized.

I had to stop using audible in hopes of gaining some sort of connection to the book. And it just wasn’t working. The narrator nailed the dialogues for the women in the book, but that was about it. I didn’t feel any sort of connection.

Really disappointed
