Publisher's summary

A Warhammer Crime audio.

Murder in the neutral zone between Imperial and Adeptus Mechanicus territory sets Probator Symeon Noctis on a dangerous investigation.

Listen to it because: discover tensions between Imperial servants on Varangantua as an extremely odd pair of detectives seeks to solve a murder.

The story: born into riches, Probator Symeon Noctis attempts to atone for his past sins by championing the powerless of Nearsteel district. But the sprawling city of Varangantua is uncaring of its masses, and when a bisected corpse is discovered in the neutral zone between Nearsteel and the Adeptus Mechanicus enclave of Steelmound, Noctis finds himself cast into his most dangerous case yet.

Partnering with the tech-priest Rho-1 Lux of the Collegiate Extremis, Noctis is drawn into a murky world of tech-heresy, illegal servitors and exploitation that could end his career or his life.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by James Mcnaughton.

A gem among gems

I don't usually leave reviews like this for even my most beloved 40k material, but Flesh and Steel all but demanded it of me. It's simply too good for me to enjoy in silence, but if I drag out the most meaningful bits of why this book is wonderful, then I'll be here all night, and moreover no amount of fanboyish gushing will do it justice. So I'll sell it to you like this: If you like Warhammer 40k, read Flesh and Steel. If you like gritty crime and mystery novels, read Flesh and Steel. If you like good books, whether or not those include 40k or crime and mystery novels, read. Flesh. And. Steel. Right now. Do it. Stop reading this review and go buy the book, you absolute buffoon, what are you even still doing here ACQUIRE FLESH AND STEEL IMMEDIATEL-

Perfection. Love, incredible characters, and action.

I loved this story from start to finish. If you love the nobility in 40K and the stories of mortals in such a wonderful setting you will love this book. It plays out like a movie!

Very good

Good combination of mystery from within the 40k universe. Wish there was a follow up novel or something more !

MOAR!

I can’t begin to rate this story high enough. I want more on Noctis and Lux. The stories great and I hated having to pause it in order to charge my earbuds. I highly recommend this book and author. Guy Hayley if you’re reading this. I love your work you mad man. I want to see more Warhammer books like this. You knocked the ball clean out of the park with this one. (I also highly recommend his books Baneblade and Shadowsword. Though they aren’t on the app in English anyways.) you’re a god amongst writers Mister Hayley.

One of the best 40k novels I have listened to!

I have listened to over 200 hours of 40k books and this places 2nd for me and only that low because I have a bias toward the Ciaphas Cain series. Absolutely fantastic story, pacing, and narration. I hope they continue this series

First and favorite 40k novel!

I'm a big fan of the Adeptus Mechanicus of the 41st Millennium and will be recommending this novel to other fans and those who are newly introduced to the setting. It perfectly captures a look at the 41st Millennium from a smaller picture. No larger than life trans-humans or apocalyptic Xeno invasion. Simply a mystery within the slums of a Hive World.

More of these two

Great Warhammer crime book. I am enjoying the Warhammer crime novel, but want more of the characters authors to bring us new stories. Would love more Noctus, etc.
