About this listen

Book one in the Bequin series.

Listen to it because:

It's an intriguing and evocative story that shows characters you know and love through new (yet strangely familiar) eyes, forging a stunning mystery that will leave you astonished.

The story:

In the city of Queen Mab, nothing is quite as it seems. Pariah, spy and Inquisitorial agent Alizebeth Bequin is all of these things and yet none of them. An enigma, even to herself, she is caught between Inquisitors Gregor Eisenhorn and Gideon Ravenor, former allies now enemies who are playing a shadow game against a mysterious and deadly foe. Coveted by the archenemy, pursued by the Inquisition, Bequin becomes embroiled in a dark plot of which she knows not her role or purpose. Helped by a disparate group of allies, she must unravel the secrets of her life and past if she is to survive a coming battle in which the line between friends and foes is fatally blurred.

I really enjoyed this book. Been a long time fan with Dan's inquisitor series, and following up with what Ravenor and Eisenhorn are up to through Bequin's eyes is a refreshing change.

The story will keep you riveted and the voice performance is exciting.

Refreshing entry into the inquisition series!

Came back from book 2 to review and the performance of the narrator here felt much less whiny, probably due to the majority of the writing are exposition instead of dialogue and thus with allowed for much less expression to show through.
.
Overall a good hearing session for a noir story in 40k setting, but listener would probably want to read book 2 instead of listen - and book 3 as well.

An interesting noir hearing

I wasnt sure how much i would enjoy this continuation of the eisenhorn/ravenor storyline but im happy i gave it a chance. It has a very surreal atmosphere and this is probably the best use of first person narrative the franchise has given us. The storyline feels very dream-like but still urgent and mysterious. The only warning I’ll give is that it is not a good entry point into this storyline, it should be listened to after the books that preceded it.

I absolutely love this book! The story is so good, and I was happy to hear how everything was tied together from previous stories. I was a little hesitant to buy this book at first, but I just finished it and immediately bought the second with excitement

Amazing

Great story with exceptional writing. Very little of the story actually deals with Eisenhorn or Ravenor but nonetheless it is great nonetheless. The narrator does a wonderful job of keeping the dialog interesting. I would strongly recommend reading the previous Eisenhorn/Ravenous novels first for clarity.

Great all around
