About this listen

Danger in the air. Lovers on the brink.

A Charm of Magpies, Book 3: With the justiciary understaffed, a series of horrifying occult murders to be investigated, and a young student who is flying - literally - off the rails, magical law enforcer Stephen Day is under increasing stress. And his relationship with his aristocratic lover, Lord Crane, is beginning to feel the strain. Crane chafes at the restrictions of England's laws, and there's a worrying development in the blood-and-sex bond he shares with Stephen. A development that makes a sensible man question if they should be together at all.

When a thief strikes at the heart of Crane's home, a devastating loss brings his closest relationships into bitter conflict - especially his relationship with Stephen. And as old enemies, new enemies, and unexpected enemies paint the lovers into a corner, the pressure threatens to tear them apart.

Warning: Contains hot-blooded sex, cold-blooded murder, sinister magical goings-on, and a lot of swearing.

Outstanding Great collaboration

This is the third book in the Charm of Magpie series. I agree with a quote I heard from Scarlett Peckham on the podcast smart bitches trashy books. She is a masterclass of plotting. I love the continued growth of these characters. The adrenaline rush I get with not just the erotic scenes but the paranormal crime mystery that has to be solved is truly fantastic. Cornell Collins brings the synergy... kaboom. Love these guys.
Thanks to you both

Why does it have to be over???

It's fitting that the last book for Stephen and Lucien would be my favorite. I really don't want to say good-bye to these two- 3 books, plus the shorts, just isn't enough! I could listen to a new story about them every week- so long as they'd continued to be narrated by Cornell Collins- he is sooo fantastic!
While A Case of Possession was probably the creepiest of the trilogy, this one was the toughest for me, considering all Stephen and Lucien go through as a couple. Lucien wants Stephen to be safe, Stephen wants to do what's right. It's a tough road for them both, as things do get personal.
I really enjoyed how the secondary characters came to be so important in this story. Merrick has been such a huge part of Lucien's life for so long, I liked that we got a more intimate look into his life.
I'm so sad that this is it for Lord Crane and Stephen. Cornell Collins really brought this series to life for me- he was, in turn, Lord Crane and Stephen. His performance throughout this series has been outstanding. I could "see" everything thanks to him.
I am intrigued by Jonah Pastern- I wasn't sure what to think of him, but after that little peek at the end I'm excited to see what's to come for him! And since it's part of the Marpie world hopefully we'll see Stephen and Lucien!

Great story, characters, and prose!

I've only just started reading in the romance category, and as I've blundered about looking for good books to read, I came upon the "A Charm of Magpies" series by K. J. Charles. Book 1 was a wonderful surprise. The writing is top shelf with witty, evocative, and fresh. Charles is a masterful talent, taking the familiar tropes and beats of the genre and employing them in clever ways that made them seem new and interesting. When I finished book 1 ("The Magpie Lord") I immediately devoured every book in the series with ever increasing delight. This one, "Flight of Magpies" was particularly was fun.

I also cannot praise enough the performance by Cornell Collins. I absolutely loved listening to his readings of these books. His voice is pleasant to listen to, and his characterizations fit perfectly for me. He made an already fun series of books even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this book and all the books in the "A Charm of Magpies" series.

Better Than Amazing!

It's hard to find gay, kinky fiction that's actually good. I wouldn't go so far as to call this smut, since it's really well written, with a very decent plot and well developed, lovable characters, but each book has a couple of explicit sex scenes, and a few other sexual references which are as hot or hotter than anything I've ever read. I'm binging the whole series!!

Couldn’t have asked for a better last book!
Gahhh Crane and Stephen are just perfect together! This book was filled with wonder, action and raw feelings! I so love Mr. Merrick! This was just perfect perfect perfect! Old evils, new devils and rampant feelings, I simply couldn’t stop listening once I started!
The ending was perfection!

Yes!!!!! What a couple!!

What a thrill ride!

Ah, my lovelies, whilst I lie sick in bed writing this review I crave not medicines and elixirs: I crave Crane (and of course, Stephen).
Yes, their story is over for the most part. I’m told they pop in for the next book, but it’s not the same really, is it?

Here our very proper Crane and his very filthy mouth finds himself in dire straits. Thank goodness for that mouth of his for he puts it to good use in attempting to save not only himself, but his lover Stephen against the evil machinations of a warlock gone mad.

Treachery is afoot in this third installment and it comes from unexpected places. There is a huge tug of war between Crane and Stephen over his dangerous job and Crane’s desire to return to China. Will duty or desire win?

Needless to say, an HEA is in store for our mismatched lovers, at least for now. I’ve been ripping through this series in audiobook and let me tell you, every penny was worth it. I started the next book in the Charm of Magpie World starring a character here and a new one. No Crane or Stephen yet, but I know they’ll make an appearance.

These books are phenomenal, even more so in audiobook....HIGHLY recommended, especially the sex scenes as Crane likes to be bossy in bed and Stephen loves him that way!

I've been hooked on this.

I won't spin out an overly long eeview. suffice to say I really loved this book. If you like the last two books then you had better read this one.

Absolutely brilliant

Perfect story, flawless narration. What else do we want? Yes of course: more Flight of Magpies books. I think three are not enough. I can't express how thorougly I enjoyed these stories. And Cornell Collins' narration turns them into a feast!
