K. Bromberg
An all new flirty, lighthearted, standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg guaranteed to make you swoon.
Blakely Foxx is having one of those years.
Her divorce may have been finalized a few months ago, but her ex is already engaged to someone half her age. Her younger boss is determined to sabotage her chance at getting the promotion she rightly deserves. And to make matters worse, she’s closing in on the big 4-0. There isn’t enough wine or ice cream in the world to convince her things will turn around.
When Blakely meets Slade Henderson, she’s left wondering why an early-thirties, hotter than hell, cardiothoracic surgeon would take an interest in her.
She’s been warned that he’ll break her heart, but she’s willing to take the chance. Not only is he helping her get that promotion, but in the process, he’s encouraging her to find the parts of herself she’s lost over the past few years.
Slade shows her that good guys really do exist, but who knew the hardest part about turning forty would be realizing the man you thought was a rebound, is actually your happily ever after?

I found this book refreshing. When you go through a divorce, women often don’t feel attractive or “good enough.” Been there, done that and I could really empathize with Blakely. I also loved that Slade understood that and really helped her find herself again.
It doesn’t hurt that they had an immediate connection with each other. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to anyone. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments mixed in with steamy attraction.

For the most part I got over it. K. Bromberg wrote Blakely really well as a divorcee still reeling from the after effects of her marriage. How she shaped this character into improving her own self image was really good. Slade was great as her cheerleader. He’s a doctor at a crossroads with his job. So with his unexpected free time, he helps Blakely with her job with a list.
How K. weaves this list into the story was probably one of my favorite parts of this book. It was sentimental and good to see Blakely challenged. I liked that she gave into the chemistry her and Slade shared and I loved how she evolved.
While not a fan of the black moment, I did adore the sweetness of this love story. Blakely and Slade were just *that* couple you cheer for.
Emma Wilder and Zachary Webber came through hard. Just a great performance from both. Emma stealing the show just a little bit more with multiple character voices in some scenes. Just wow.

Overall: As a woman nearing my 40th myself, I find Blakely to be pretty relatable. Her insecurities are, in my opinion at least, not at all odd. She's been through a rough divorce and has a lot of insecurities. Slade helps her come to deal with a job she doesn't like, a failed marriage she hasn't healed from, and self-confidence issues she struggles with.
The Good: Emma Wilder has a seriously sexy man's voice; Slade is a fantastic character who is easy-going, understanding, and really just the perfect guy; I love the fake-boyfriend trope; the writing is impeccable; Webber is charismatic and swoon-worthy. Webber's voice for Barbie is fantastically hilarious (and makes me wish there was more of it!). This book has some seriously sexy scenes.
The Meh: Webber felt really underutilized, esp for a dual narration book.
