About this listen

From the author of the Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley's The Italian Girl takes you from the back streets of Naples to the world's finest opera houses on a poignant, unforgettable journey of love, betrayal and self-discovery.

Read by Yolanda Kettle (Philippa Gregory's The Queen's Fool)

Nothing sings as sweetly as love, or burns quite like betrayal.

Rosanna Menici is just a girl when she meets Roberto Rossini – the man who will change her life. In the years that follow, their destinies will be bound together – both for their extraordinary talents as opera singers, and by their enduring but obsessive love.

Their love will ultimately affect the lives of all those closest to them. For, as Rosanna slowly discovers, their union is haunted – haunted by irreversible events of the past . . .

Praise for Lucinda Riley:

'A masterclass in beautiful writing' – The Sun

'Captivating . . . poignant yet uplifting' – Woman's Own

'Utterly enchanting . . . Prepared to be intrigued, moved to tears and ultimately uplifted' – Lancashire Evening Post

A version of this story has previously been published under the title Aria, under the name Lucinda Edmonds – now extensively rewritten as The Italian Girl.

Outstanding!!!

This is one of the best books I’ve listen to in a long time! It was well written and the narration was well done. I always considered Ms Riley’s “The Midnight Rose “ as her best book; this one was just as good.

Lucinda Riley never disappoints me. Each story is exciting and this story keeps you hoping that never it will to be over. The ending is perfect.

Loved this

This was one of my favorite Lucinda Riley stand alone books. I could not stop listening! Even though the main character Roberto is infuriating, the story was perfect. Would definitely recommend!

The love story of Roberto and Roseanna.

I hate how the narrator keeps changing from "a" to "er" back and forth. For example: one time the narrator says Roseanna, the next time it is Roseanner". Also, the story doesn't even explain how Roberto was the father of Ella's, and yet, when she finds out about it, there isn't any comment bu either Ella's or Rosanna.

Storyline was too contrived

Disliked the British accent on the Italian characters. The reader did a great job but an Italian accent would’ve been more in keeping with the story about Italians.
