About this listen
Flourishing on the Edge of Faith is a passionate meditation on the profound significance of Jesus's prayer. With years of study, teaching, and peacemaking around the world, Dr. Andrew DeCort uncovers Jesus's radical vision for human flourishing in the face of suffering and violence. Wherever you are on the edge of faith, this book will meet your questions with honesty and hope.
"This book is at once comforting and discomfiting in a deeply personal way. I confront the devastation of war every day, and so I keep a poster on my office wall that reminds me, 'Don't be ashamed to stand for peace.' Whether you're a believer or not, Flourishing on the Edge of Faith will give you the shameless courage necessary to stand for peace." (Dr. Alex de Waal, President, World Peace Foundation)
"This book is subtle and radical. Its stated aim is modest: to introduce you to a practice of prayer. But if you open your heart enough, it will introduce you to a new worldview, and maybe even change your world. Prayer is powerful. Faith is powerful. This book will show you the way." (Eboo Patel, Founder and President, Interfaith America)
"Flourishing's fresh, blazing, Jesus-intoxicated spiritual vision can speak to everyone. Andrew is one of the most inspired, and inspiring, Christian thinkers and practitioners that I know anywhere in the world." (Rev. Dr. David Gushee, past President, The American Academy of Religion and The Society of Christian Ethics)
"I am an atheist, would never dream of praying, and believe that religion has wrought much evil in the world. But Flourishing on the Edge of Faith embodies the kind of Christianity that I do not hesitate to get behind." (David Livingstone Smith, author of On Inhumanity: Dehumanization and How to Resist It)
"Flourishing on the Edge of Faith is a guidebook for the soul." (Michael Fishbane, Distinguished Service Professor of Jewish Studies Emeritus, University of Chicago)

Story
In an era in which many Christians consider Jesus a beloved but remote savior, Willard argues compellingly for the relevance of God to every aspect of our existence. Masterfully capturing the central insights of Christ's teachings in a fresh way for today's seekers, he helps us to explore a revolutionary way to experience God by knowing him as an essential part of the here and now, rather than only as part of the hereafter.

Story
For years, Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection, and provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth".

Story
Do you feel exhausted by tribalism? You aren't alone. As culture warriors divide the world into us and them—fracturing families, friendships, and churches—most of us long for an end to the constant fighting. But does a practical path exist? Jesus lived in a culture split by tribalism, but he resisted its allure by choosing something bigger: truth. He's now inviting you to apply his ancient path to the modern culture war. How would your community change if you became a catalyst for Christlike unity? Rejecting tribalism is the first step.

Story
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

In Out of Sorts, Sarah Bessey, award-winning blogger and author of Jesus Feminist, helps us grapple with core Christian issues using a mixture of beautiful storytelling and biblical teaching. As she candidly shares her wrestlings with core issues - such as who Jesus is, what place the church has in our lives, how to disagree yet remain within a community, and how to love the Bible for what it is rather than what we want it to be - she teaches us how to walk courageously through our own tough questions.

Behind the scenes of movies like The Ten Commandments, The Prince of Egypt, or Exodus: Gods and Kings is a complicated, and at times, messy biblical story. In this short guide to the book of Exodus, Biblical scholar Peter Enns doesn't just break down the story for the average person to understand but takes us behind the story - to the history and traditions that led us to the story as we have it today. By asking the important questions, and taking us along Moses's and the Israelite journey, Enns brings the best in biblical scholarship to us everyday people.

Story
There is a church not too far from us that recently added a $25 million addition to their building. Our local newspaper ran a front-page story not too long ago about a study revealing that one in five people in our city lives in poverty. This is a book about those two numbers. It's a book about faith and fear, wealth and war, poverty, power, safety, terror, Bibles, bombs, and homeland insecurity, It's about what happens when Christians support, animate, and participate in the very things Jesus came to set people free from.

Story
We live in a time when our culture is becoming increasingly shallow, coarse, and empty. Radical shifts in the areas of sexuality, ethics, technology, secular ideologies, and religion have caused the once-familiar landscape of a generation ago to be virtually unrecognizable. Yet rather than shine as a beacon of light, the church often is silent or accommodating. This isn’t a new phenomenon. During World War II, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was deeply troubled by the compromise in the German church.

Story
Everything Is Spiritual is a brief history of how these ideas about creation, love, and connection shaped the author - and can shape every one of us. In this audiobook, Rob Bell explores the concept that what people really want, more than anything, is to understand their purpose here - so much so that it gives them an abiding sense of awe and wonder. And when you embrace where and who you come from and your wounds and pains and regrets, you will discover that there's an invitation lurking there in the mess of life.

You will be changed
Get ready for a ride! This book took me on a journey through the Lord’s Prayer in a way that felt as if Jesus was walking along side me and opening doors and windows to the unfathomable love He is readily pouring out onto every single person. Sometimes it felt too intense for me to manage, but Andrew has a way of gently showing you how it is entirely possible and how Jesus will be the Guide, always. I will be listening to this again and I will be taking it slowly as I let these lessons sink in so that I develop a practice to prepare me for peace and love as a response, the way Jesus lived His human life. The beautiful thing about this book is it gets right to the difficult, yet extraordinary way to live a life that truly reflects Jesus. Jesus’s way was shocking then, and it is shocking today. G-D is OUR Father. My goal after these lessons is to stop “othering” and intensely pursue “togethering”. Thank you, Andrew DeCort for this profound message you have shared.

Powerful Text and Powerful Delivery
I feel like I routinely encounter reviewers rightly criticizing authors for attempting to read their own work and struggling to fill the related but distinct task of being voiceover talent. The opposite is true here. As good as the manuscript is, Andrew breathes fresh life into each word as he pours out his heart in radical authenticity. This work is sure to provoke fresh reflection and practice for those that desire fierce flourishing.

Great book
I listen to on 1.5x because I felt like it was more my speed. I've read many Christian books. This book was great and I agreed with the message for sure, definitely worth a read. This style of writing isn't my 100% favorite, but still worth a read! I feel this book would really speak to a lot of today's youth. The vocabulary is very modern and way things are present are very new age.
