About this listen

Move from a transactional experience with God to a transformational friendship with Him through prayer.

How can time with God be a source of peace in a loud and distracting world? In Beholding, spiritual director and poet Strahan Coleman invites listeners to discover the joy of being with God, not just working for Him. As they inhabit the art of resting in God’s presence, prayer becomes not only a place of seeking, but becoming.

Beholding calls Christians to understand how:

  • Prayer is so much more than spoken conversation between us and God; it’s a way of existing together.
  • Beholding God in prayer is profoundly connected to beholding and dignifying others.
  • Embracing prayer practices from different Christian traditions digs a deep well of peace in the soul.
  • Our everyday ordinary lives can become the meeting place for God through silence, solitude, community, creation, and hospitality.

Very grateful for the audio version of this book from one of my favorite teachers. This book comes a long at a time where the Lord is teaching me some similar things and it was very encouraging! thank you Strahan!!

Timely

A beautiful invitation to deepening our union and relationship with God via a mind, body and soul that seeks to BEHOLD God and to find oneself, beheld by Him. We’re each invited.

Stirring for your soul

Strahan allows his pain to be used for Good. I’m so inspired by the simple ways we can use our bodies to pray; that note combines from the end of the book but is a huge takeaway.

Similar to Thirsting, but the original

I enjoyed every bit of this story and this encouragement. I’m left with a deeper longing to know God in so many of these ways and, truly, without a whole lot of shame. Which is new for a book on prayer, for me. :) thanks!

What a gift.

This book really impacted my life. I felt convicted by the first chapter. Strahan has an amazing backstory of how he moved into a deeper friendship with God and with his encouragement, I hope I can also begin to enjoy God simply for who He is, and not what I want from Him. I recommend reading this one before his other book Thirsting, I did it the opposite way!

Becoming a Beholder

For anyone seeking where the good way is, this book is a gentle and loving invitation to walk the ancient paths and find rest for their souls (and more). Beholding is a warm hug you didn't know you needed. Highly recommend to every person ever 😎

rest for your souls

This is following a wave of thinking that has a very Dallas Willard, Henry Nouwen, Eugene Peter's train of thought and adding more heart and big picture behind Richard Foster's spiritual disciplines focus. It is also reaching far back into church history that emphasizes the main privilege that the church has been given through the Gospel, that of intimate communication and interaction with God. This is definitely a repeat book and a book for those about ready to hand in their resignation to the church.

I love this authors heart. if you are interested in spiritual formation, which I understand to be tending the gap between what I know about God and what I experience in my reality with God, then this is a great book for you. There is also a podcast prayer companion to go with it that os awesome.

Good not only for information
