About this listen
Summer vacation is almost here! And Pea O'Neil is stoked to try out the new local BMX track that is finally open. He and his gang of friends can ride all summer long!
But when Pea tries a back flip, he unwittingly opens a portal to another dimension, and hordes of flying mutant zombie rats are unleashed upon the city.
With the help of an otherworldly talking cat sent to help prevent the demise of humankind, Pea and his friends must hunt down the hungry mutants and send them back before the portal closes. But when the zombie rats attack a neighbor, the boys have to enlist the help of a graveyard loony and the city's stray cats.
With time running out, Pea and his gang track the monsters to the city's sewer system. But in the city sewer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it’s eat...or get eaten.

Very well crafted kids adventure
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My 6 year old son and I listened to it over the course of a few days. We both were excited for the drive in the morning so we could catch up with the fun adventure of Peabody and his gang. It proved to be quite informative for my son as he asked questions about the virus that Max, The Talking Cat, tells them about and so we looked it up and it turns out it is real. He was also very interested in the idea that P’s dad tells him about. To Improvise, Adapt and Overcome. This was a concept my son had not really thought about. We are eagerly awaiting book 2. Moto Maddy’s BMX Portal will hopefully be bringing us more adventure.
The narration was great. Dave Tucker was very adept at using the voice that you can picture the characters as having.

Apocalyptic Zombie Rats
My kids and I found this book to be entertaining, funny and intriguing. I admit the book starts out slow but it doesn't stay that way for long and when it picks up the sarcastic wit comes out to play. I would recommend this book to anyone age 11 or more but would suggest that certain ages listen with a parent. I received this book for free upon my request but it has no bearing on my review.

A High Speed Race Against the Apocalypse
Pea O’Neil and his middle schooler friends accidentally open a portal to another world while riding their BMX bikes at a local track. The result is an incursion by the flying mutant zombie rats of the title. The rats are not only hungry, they are infectious, and the boys take it on themselves to try and save Milwaukee from becoming zombie central. Fortunately, they have the assistance of an other-dimensional talking cat.
Let me say right up front that this is a fastmoving novel that is loads of fun. The characters are colorful and the plot hangs together well enough to keep the story pedaling furiously forward. So yes, it seems peculiar that a couple of dads would give there sons a crash course in fighting without asking pesky little questions like who do they plan to wage war against, but it all fits the good fun tone of the novel right up to the climatic ending.
If you like remembering the heroic fantasies you had when you were twelve, this is a great story. If you are twelve, this is the sort of tale that can inspire your own dreams. In short, there’s a lot of fun between these pages and I’d like to see what trouble these friends and their cat will get into next.

My son loved it
So, the age suggested for this book is 6-8 but once again my 12 yr old listened and loved it. Although I felt the narrator was good, my son's complaint was the voice didn't match how he envisioned the story being told.
He did like the story. He read it after being a little annoyed with the pace of the narrator.
Good story all in all.

Fast paced, fun adventure!
Flying Mutant Zombie Rats by Kat de Falla is a super fun, fast-paced adventure for kids, though as an adult, I enjoyed it as well! Pea O'Neil and his friends go to a BMX track to check it out. Before they know it, they discover that they have unknowingly opened up a portal to another dimension. A dimension where flying mutant zombie rats live. Suddenly, they out in our world and it's up to Pea and his friends to try and save the world from being overrun by them. This was a super fun story for pre-teens. Its fun and super fast-paced, so it should keep their attention just fine!
The narration was where I felt that this story fell a little flat. Dave Tucker didn't have the energy that I feel that this story deserved. I think having a narrator that reads with more emotion and energy would have brought a lot more to the story and would definitely help with kids listening to the story and keeping them interested. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
