Critic reviews

"Fleeing persecution by the Church, a young sorcerer in medieval France seeks refuge among the Franciscans, dedicating his life to the triumph of good over evil until a strange twist of fate forces him to assume the role of his greatest enemy and take his place among the immortal Incarnations. In his most ambitious work yet, Anthony tackles sensitive moral issues with his customary high spirits." ( Library Journal)

Love it

For an agnostic man, Piers sure can get into some detail about God and Satan. Somewhere during the middle I noticed a bit of "Dante's inferno". After listening to the first 5 and really disliking Satan, my opinion of him changed when you get to see things from his point of view. Oh call me a heratic, but I find myself sympathizing with this poor character. As always, very well written. Still not crazy bout the narrator although she did a better job in this one than book 5. Maybe because she did not have to do any fairy or nymph voices in this one.

The best book in the series.

This book is the best in the series in my opinion. The story is tighter and the characters are much better developed. the best part is this is the novel that ties all the other books together. that makes it really interesting to see what was going on from the person seen as the enemy for the series to date.

Not as good as I remember 20 years later.

Honestly the story hasn't aged well. But it has sentimental value to me. Too much referring back to Green Mother, and held back by having to be framed by the previous novels.

This is Piers Anthony at his best!

I've loved Piers Anthony since I was a young man in the 80's. this series was one of his best ever. his insight back then into the nature of mankind, and of people was uncanny. He has been able to incorporate current and historical events into his stories so that they are believable even today. The narration was excellent, and the story pulled you in and hooked you so it took great effort to step away. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to experience a great story, but don't have the time to relax and read a book.

Excellent performance !

I read this series over 20 years ago in college but never really appreciated until I heard the Audible version.
This performance definitely left me wanting more. Fortunately there is one more book to go!!!

I Love Piers!

Would you consider the audio edition of For Love of Evil to be better than the print version?

Yes with my eyes going as I get older the audio books bring my back the stories I can't read any more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Who else but Perry too many whys to list. Give it a listen you'll see why. Also Jolie is a perfect love interest.

What does Barbara Caruso bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her inflection and character voices bring the story to life even better than when I read it the first five times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Jolies death and Perrys rise as the evil incarnation.

Any additional comments?

Read this and any Piers Anthony you can get your hands on! He's punny, intelligent, and a wordsmith like no other this or last decade.
