About this listen

Alex Ryan lives a simple life. She has her farm in the Scottish countryside, and the self-imposed seclusion suits her until a crime that has haunted her for years tears through the calm and shatters the fragile peace she'd finally managed to find.

Lori Hunter's greatest love is the mountains. They're her escape from the constant hustle and bustle of everyday life. Growing up was neither traditional nor easy for Lori, but now she's beginning to realize she's settled for both. A dead-end relationship and little to look forward to. Her solution when the suffocation sets in? Run for the hills.

A chance encounter in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands leads Alex and Lori into a whirlwind of heartache and a fight for survival as they build a formidable bond that will be tested to its ultimate limits.

Contains mature themes.

So worth reading.

I was very surprised, I had never heard of this Author before I picked out this book. It was a bit confusing at first ,but by the next few chapters I was in line and following the plot quit well. It was well developed with Charictors you couldn't help but love.
I will be looking for more from thus Author in the future.
BTW, the narrative was really good.

Great Story

Enjoyed this story w lesbian awakening romance which included murder, a serial killer, detective work all together making this a different kind of romance. Good narration good ending. Worth the credit. I listened to it straight thru twice. I’m sure I will revisit this one again in my future.

Engaging!

The story kept a nice forward-moving pace, with well-developed characters who are memorable. I've only listened to the audio version of this story. That being said, my opinion stems mainly from the presentation. Two girls meet while hiking and while they spend a small amount of time together, their chemistry blossoms instantly. I liked this because in real life you really can meet someone and be swept off your feet in a matter of moments. I enjoyed going with the flow of the quickly developed attractions. I enjoyed waiting to find out what the story of Beth was about in the beginning and how that was going to end. I really REALLY liked the voice of the narrator and felt her timing and inflections were perfect. I did have one issue with the narration and that was the speed of her speaking. I felt she read through it very quickly which made it difficult to keep up with who was speaking when there were multiple people. I often had to rewind (sometimes more than once) to follow along. I wished she would have slowed down just a bit and added more pauses to allow information to sink in, for us middle-agers. Aside from the speaking speed, I have to say she brought this story to life magnificently! I tend to feel picky when it comes to narrators delivering lines and I feel Ruth Urquhart is one of the top 3 narrators I've listened to. Maybe even top 2. As an American, I wouldn't know the difference between accents in different regions of different countries in the EU but her accents sounded beautiful and were fun to listen to. I'll definitely seek out more books narrated by Ruth U as well as written by Wendy Hudson.

Excellent!

I loved Four Steps. A little something for everyone. Hiking, drinking with friends, suspense, heartache and police procedures. Great book. Ruth Urquhart did a great job with the narration.

Good book

I love a good mystery and when you throw in awesome backgrounds it just adds to the book. And did I mention there is a hero dog in it as well. It was a good listen and worth the credit.

The ending is gripping

For me it took a minute to get going
But once it did
I couldn’t stop listening
Plus the accents made it even better

LOVED!

absolutely loved this audio book! the story started and it was hard to pause. I finished it in 2 days, biting my nails at the suspense through the whole last half. an old murder at farm house, several loveable Scottish and English women, some romance, and some kick ass action, and beautiful narration! sad the book had to end.
