About this listen

Two women. Two worlds. One love worth risking it all.

When professional soccer player Alex Grey goes on a vacation to the local South Carolina islands, she isn't anticipating any life-changing events. Just a relaxing weekend to prepare for the upcoming season. But that quickly changes when she finds herself the lone witness to a sailing accident and makes the decision to risk her own life to save a drowning woman—unwittingly coming to the rescue of a US senator's wife, Catharine Cleveland.

Despite the vast disparity between their worlds, the two women find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another after the near-catastrophic afternoon. Following a series of interactions from the soccer fields of Portland, to the Marina District of San Francisco Bay, and the cutthroat political circle of Washington, D.C., they find their friendship growing, transforming into an attraction neither woman can deny.

Nor an attraction either woman can comfortably embrace.

As the magnetism of their connection grows, both women are forced to decide if the pursuit of love is worth the cost while living under the scrutiny of the public eye.

The Senator's Wife is Book One of a three book series.

My new favorite author!!!

So many sapphic books lack depth and there is usually zero character development. That is not the case with this amazing trilogy! I’ve loved every word and feel like I know the many characters. I can’t wait to read more from this author! Abby Craden did a knock out job with the narration! I’ve listened to many from her and this is her best yet!!!

Good Age Gap Low Burn!!

I have to be honest this book was a slow start for me… but after the first few chapters I was hooked! It’s a good slow burn… Age Gap…Love story… This book isn’t heavy on the spice… but I didn’t miss it!! Abby Craden killed the narration of this one!! I can’t wait to jump into book two!!

Not a Senators Wife Material

Spice Level: 1/5 Closed-Door

TW: Domestic violence and an almost domestic rape.

Catharine Cleveland and Alex Grey meet in the most incidental way. Alex happens to save Mrs. Cleveland from drowning just off the shore of a South Carolina beach that she just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Mrs. Cleveland is currently married to a U.S. Senator for South Carolina. Alex plays for the South Carolina NWSL team but is eventually traded away to the opposite coast, in California to play for the newest California NWSL expansion team. During this time and after the trade, Alex and Catherine forge a friendship and more. Complications arise due to Catherine being married and Alex dating Caleb. Catherine falls under more scrutiny as her husband puts in a bid to run for President. Can Catherine and Alex beat the odds to be together? Pick this title up and check it out.

I will say, for me, my only disappointment was the lack of spice. I definitely love my stories with some spice to them. That being said. This story kept me very interested. So interested, I'm now listening to the second book in the series. I am invested. The writing of Jen Lyon is magnificent. I especially loved the integration of the NWSL and the USWNT. I like both and, to me, some of the descriptions of the fictional NWSL teams, I was trying to guess who they might have been based off of and even the other player descriptions. Not sure when Jen Lyon was writing this story but talk of the expansion NWSL team out in California, I wonder if inspiration came from ACFC or Bay FC.

The reality

I think I fell in love with soccer! The reality of the story was very on point. The fact it was all rain bows and sunshine was thr best part it kept me on my tres. I would love a Novellá of the wedding after everything they went through, to stand by the morales and ethics was outstanding! I loved how bringing up true issues for womens sports corps. constantly threatening the you must look like the perfect god bearing woman to have the backing of the industry in order for your talent to be reconized is facts. It happens to the GLBTQ and everyone in a community of people who dont live their idea of a perfect role modeling image. It was a beautiful thrillings series!!!!!!!.

Amazing

As much as I enjoyed reading the book, the audio version is truly amazing. Abby Craden was a master of all the different dialects of the characters in the story. If you didn't have a love for women's soccer before reading this series, you certainly will after. Lyon and Craden are a pair I hope to see again for the remaining two books.

The Senator's Wife

Excellent story, excellent narration; I pretty much binge-listened to it. Really looking forward to the Audible version of the follow-up. Of course, Abby Craden must "read" that one to us as well; she really cycled through the accents in this book and has created indelible characters vocally, esp w/ regard to that SOB cracker MAGA senator to whom Catharine is married. I've wanted to jump through my TV screen to throttle abusive, domineering men before, but wanting to do so through my phone is a new experience!

Fantastic

Beautifully narrated by Abby Crayden, I loved this story building. The tensions muddling the path to each other. I cannot wait to start book 2.

The narrator of course

An entirely problematic ending. Another novel would be needed to rectify the immorality of the antagonist, however, leaving it without even a suggestion of punishment for pure evil and greed left me disappointed in an otherwise wonderful essay in character development.
