About this listen

The latest in the New York Times bestselling Cork O'Connor Mystery Series from the "master storyteller" (Kristin Hannah, #1 New York Times bestselling author) follows Cork in a race against time to save his wife, a mysterious stranger, and an Ojibwe healer from bloodthirsty mercenaries.

The ancient Ojibwe healer Henry Meloux has had a vision of his death. As he walks the Northwoods in solitude, he tries to prepare himself peacefully for the end of his long life. But peace is destined to elude him as hunters fill the woods seeking a woman named Dolores Morriseau, a stranger who had come to the healer for shelter and the gift of his wisdom.

Meloux guides this stranger and his great niece, Cork O'Connor's wife, to safety deep into the Boundary Waters, his home for more than a century. On the last journey he may ever take into this beloved land, Meloux must do his best to outwit the deadly mercenaries who follow.

Meanwhile, in Aurora, Cork works feverishly to identify the hunters and the reason for their relentless pursuit, but he has little to go on. Desperate, Cork begins tracking the killers but his own skills as a hunter are severely tested by nightfall and a late season snowstorm. He knows only too well that with each passing hour time is running out. But his fiercest enemy in this deadly game of cat and mouse may well be his own deep self-doubt about his ability to save those he loves.

I absolutely Love the Cork O'Connor Series. This book does not disappoint. Change in Character is not something we see in Life, But the Great Creator has power to do just that. Cork & his Family & Friends take on an Big Assignment & with the help of main it is made complete. Excellent Book!! Thanks So Much William Kent Krueger!!

David Chandler’s narration always makes a story enjoyable. He is my favorite narrator and I have enjoyed all of the Cork O’Connor books.

Mediocre story but…

I have read all of Krueger’s books and this one is among his best. I had assumed that after so many books the plot would be somewhat predictable, but I was wrong. Nothing about it is predictable and I loved the entire thing.

Compelling story. A deeper understanding of indigenous people, and a warning about one of our precious resources.

Stumbled on to this series several years ago and still addicted! The descriptions of scenery & Native American/Canadian life are outstanding!

Big fan of this series!

I have enjoyed every book in this series and this series, but it is getting a bit repetitive. I found this story boring and annoying at times. Steven has had the same child's voice since he was 5 in book one. He is supposed to be a grown man, but he and little Wabu sound the same age. I enjoyed this as a relaxing listen before bed, but I am hoping for changes in Book 20.

Can Steven get a "big boy" voice please?

i can't wait for the next WKK book. Perfect ending. I just hope it doesn't take it a year to bring the next one out.
