About this listen

Women today are fading. In a female culture built on Photoshopped perfection and Pinterest fantasies, we've lost the ability to dream our own big dreams. So busy trying to do it all and have it all, we've missed the life we were really designed for. And we are paying the price. The rise of loneliness, depression, and anxiety among the female population in Western cultures is at an all-time high. Overall, women are two-and-a-half times more likely to take antidepressants than men. What is it about our culture, the expectations, and our way of life that is breaking women down in unprecedented ways?

In this vulnerable memoir of transformation, Rebekah Lyons shares her journey from Atlanta, Georgia to the heart of Manhattan, where she found herself blindsided by crippling depression and anxiety. Overwhelmed by the pressure to be domestically efficient, professionally astute, and physically attractive, Rebekah finally realized that freedom can come only by facing our greatest fears and fully surrendering to God's call on our lives. This audiobook is an invitation for all women to take that first step toward freedom, for it is only when we free-fall that we can truly fly.

A bit trite

The message was meaningful but coming from her unique story was not very inspiring. An overwhelmed stay-at-home mom looking for her life’s meaning and purpose while being supported by her financially stable partner.

Logical but a touch religious

Regardless of what works for you, the logical thinking in this work makes a strong case for intellectual reasoning in religion. It's an awesome revelation worth your time & unbiased consideration.

Mixed feelings

Very much a midlife crisis from a very privileged white woman. This speaks volumes to me as I am one too. It was uncomfortable to listen to because her problems were all in her head, and so are mine. The narrator was too chipper for me, and I would have had someone with some hook in her voice.

Soul-to-soul writing

Rebekah Lyons has captured my heart and soul through her books this year. Free fall to Fly spoke to me from Rebekah being from the area i live in, to her life experiences, her struggles, & her strategies she has learned to help find her life’s meaning. I never wanted the book to end. I rated Freefall to Fly with five stars because I would read it again in a heartbeat, & I am definitely sending my recommendation to other friends I’ve been intentionally encouraging as a means to overcome my own heavy burdens. I don’t know if Rebekah Lyons will ever read this post, but my words here fail to express how full my heart and soul are at the completion of this artwork.

Beautifully written but too religious for me

The authors account is beautifully written. The narrator is lovely but a bit too “sing song” & cheesy for me to believe her. I related 100% to the first half of the book. The second half lost me with the “come to Jesus/God” message. The “solution” is to find god & lay your troubles at his feet. That will undoubtedly work for you if you are a religious person. I am not. God is not my answer. I do not follow scripture. The Bible has its rightful place on my bookshelf along with all the other great works of mythology. Also, the author clearly has a LOT of friends to help her in life! I wish I had the support she has. I couldn’t relate to that aspect. I do, however, agree with her underlying message that we all must find our gifts and “pair them with our burdens”. Overall, it was worth a read/listen. If you are religious/Christian, this book is perfect. If not, you might not enjoy or relate to her “solution”.

It’s worth the listen, however…

Despite being heavy on the religious rhetoric, the message of this book is beautiful. During the first chapter, or so, I almost gave up, as this woman’s privilege is obvious. Something pushed me further, so I kept going. When you get beyond the religious tones, there’s so much to garner from this book. If you’re looking to find purpose, or are feeling lost, there’s a lot you can take from it.

Crying through the free fall with you

So so good! A beautiful and uplifting and inspiring story. I felt like I was there with her in all the highs and crying with her and her friends in all the lows. Such a powerful story! 10/10!

A nice listen about life, motherhood, and Rebekah’s experience

A nice listen about life, motherhood, and Rebekah’s experience. She gives context and inspiration into early years of mothering and finding your God given gifts in life.
