Oui...

Truly helpful and entertaining. Learning French through this book is not only helpful for improving pronunciation, but also for retention of lessons taught. Most people cannot handle lessons that span a long time and these stories are catchy and easy to remember. Very good concept.

This audiobook was offered to me for free, and I have left this review in return.

Excellent practice tool.

The short stories in this book are not only interesting, but are great for practicing common French words. To master any language, continuous practice via speaking and understanding vocabulary is key. This is what this book offers, and the conversational pace of the narration helps even more. Also, the inclusive Pdf file allows the listener to look up things that they may have confused. This ensures complete understanding of each lesson and gradual improvement as the listener completes the book.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. While this is so, my review is based solely on my opinion and is in no way biased.

Helps you become more proficient!

It really can be difficult to make the leap from basic French language programs into more realistic scenarios....and personally, I found conversations to be the most challenging to understand. What I found really helpful about these short stories is that it uses fairly natural dialog to expand your vocabulary and comprehension. English translations are provided...including in written format, I found it best if you stick to just the audio. These stories are the next best thing to experiencing French immersion...you are forced to listen carefully and attempt to understand what's going on before you listen to the English translation. Overall, I think this audiobook is a great way to improve your French skills.

Great for Learners

I'm not sure exactly what I expected, but I enjoyed trying to follow along. I have very little experience with French and am actively trying to learn, so there were a lot of new material to learn as I listened. The narration is very clear and the pace makes it a lot easier to keep up and even pick up new words through context. The vocabulary and summary of the stories made it a lot more fun to go back and re-listen to stories I had a harder time following.

Great set of stories for learning

By this point, I have listened to a few of the different offerings from LingoMastery in mostly French an in Spanish. As with other books of theirs I have reviewed, I believe in the method. They only work for you if YOU do.

To that end, you’ll need to develop a study schedule. There are suggestions at the beginning of the book of how to do exactly that. Take the time to read the PDF text alone; read and listen to the audio together; listen alone; adjust playback to different speeds if needed (and if your audio player can do that). If you follow the steps, you will learn. Guaranteed.

So that stated, what makes this learning tool special? The stories themselves show many slices of life from small children through retirees. They are short enough to review more than once. They are also quite suited to the beginner/advanced beginner. While listening to some of them, I was able to understand some of the texts on audio alone. I’ve been flirting with French a long time, but I wouldn’t call myself a true intermediate yet.

As for the narrator’s performance, she is better in this one at delivering different character voices and inflections to the narrative passages. They feel like quite interesting stories now.

I recommend this to beginner students learning French who are looking for an affordable and easy to use tool. Lower intermediate learners could also use this with ease. It is an audio, but you’ll get the best value by using the audio track that is available in your Audible library.

Great to help my French, but it's not perfect.

I have Volume 1 and Volume 2. They made some changes in Volume 2. However, it seems clear to me that they don't have a native American on their staff.
I listen to these over and over, I practice learning and pronunciation and I do my best to pick out the words I have learned from the stories. My French is not advanced enough that I understand the stories, but this gives me something to strive for. I really enjoy them.
That being said, there are errors here and there that can be distracting. For example - baguettes aux cereales they say that means French baguette made of cereal. WHAT?!? I literally spent 10 minutes trying to figure this out online and the best I can come up with is that in French cereal can mean cereal as we know it in America or grains. So I'm thinking it's a baguette made with a certain grain.
This is probably picky, but in French they have different ways to say "a", un or une. In the book they use a French word carte, and then say the definition is "a map." But that's not what they said in French, they just said "map." This was an error that I caught, but it makes me wonder if there are other errors I would learn, saying things the wrong way.
In Volume 2 they changed from having a French woman read everything - French and English, to having an American man say everything in English. However, it became apparent to me that he is just reading and has no input (like when he says a French baguette made of cereal). I liked it better when it was her reading everything. I felt it had better flow.

Good for french learners who speak english

The stories are nice, and use a vocabulary that helps beginners to learn more of the French language. All audio is pronounced in a good cadence, and the downloadable PDF that you can use to follow the audio highlights the main words, which is very helpful. I definitely will acquire more books from Lingo Mastery.

Nice to have the audio as well

I have the Kindle edition of this book already, but it's great to be able to read along with the narration and practice getting multiple input streams! The narration is well paced to be slightly challenging, but not frustratingly fast (in other words, nowhere near native speed :). The narrator's voices aren't grating, which from my limited audiobook listening experience is a definitely bonus. In all, enjoyable and recommended.

Such a great concept!

I loved this book!! I really liked to read the vocabulary list first, then read the story along with the audiobook followed by the summaries in English/French- a little bit different than the PDF order. It's very flexible. I used to be pretty good at French but forgot a lot of it because I didn't get to practice. So I was very happy to receive this book -this book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. I will definitely buy short stories in other languages!
