About this listen

When I got jilted by my unfaithful fiancé a week before the wedding, my plans involved nothing more than ice cream, a blanket fort, and a bonfire of his possessions.

But my friends convince me that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, so I embark on the Parisian honeymoon by myself. However, the City of Light isn’t remotely charming or romantic when you’re alone at a table for two, so all I want to do is go home again.

Then I meet Lucas Fournier.

The gorgeous French American bartender offers to play tour guide, confident that if I give him just one day, he can make me fall in love with the city.

Turns out he’s right, but Paris isn’t the only reason I’m swept off my feet.

Over the next 24 hours, Lucas shows me things I’ve never seen before (and I’m not talking about the Louvre). He’s sexy and funny and smart–and I find myself wondering....

Is it just the seduction of Paris? Or could this be the real thing?

"Melanie Harlow's contemporary debut is funny, sexy and sweet. Fans of Tessa Bailey will love it!" (Laurelin Paige, NYT best-selling author)

I can’t finish it!

Seems like it might be kind of a cute story, but the narrator is terrible. Often sound really petulant and it’s super annoying. She also sounds like she’s in a tunnel or bubble.

Take me to France

I came back to start reading Melanie’s books after reading her latest series and I thought this was a great start. I love the start of this series and it’s such a great book. Flew through it.

My first Melanie Harlow book and it was amazing! narration was also perfection. I love when you get a female narrator then switches between voices flawlessly.

Loved the story but

Why did the narrator sound like she was in a bubble!? This was so distracting I could hardly pay attention to the story! But I did and still loved it. Can wait for more

Highly disappointed

I started with the Next generation series since this was the first i have ever listened to anything by Melanie Harlow. I never even read a book by her. Needless to say i really liked that series so i bought this book bc it was the prequel and thought it would be just as good. Not at all 😩 the Narrator is horrible!! It ruins the book for me. And the book is already slow but i thought i could power thru it. Absolutely not. It took me 2 days to get 2 hrs thru it before i called it quits. I wanted to return it and it wouldn’t let me. So very disappointed. I screenshot the Narrator to make sure i never listen to a book read by this person. So disgusted i wasted my money.

A YA Story Trying Too Hard To Be An Adult

I listened to Harlow's Next Generation series and enjoyed that, so I thought I'd check out the earlier stories. The preview sounded good, especially since I spent a year in France in my 20's and wanted some Parisian nostalgia, but this missed the mark on so many levels.

From what I read of the author, she started her career as a YA author and this was her first foray into the adult romance arena - and you could tell! The two main characters of Frenched seemed like they were still teens, trying to play like adults. The dialogue was predictable, the character interaction not very deep, and the spicey scenes seemed like they were just dropped in so this would get an R rating.

And the terrible narrator just added to the struggle. Again, it seemed like she was trying too hard to be an adult, but never really got there. In addition, the audio quality seemed very poor; almost muffled and it made the words difficult to understand sometimes. This was probably the worst-quality audible book I have listened to since I started listening 10+ years ago.

I will say Harlow's writing does get better with time (ah, don't we all), but if I'd read this one first, I probably wouldn't have sought out any other of her novels.

Was not a fan.

No real good story here…. Just sex and no substance to it at all. Disappointed.
