Publisher's summary

Strathnaver, Scotland, summer 1792. The Highland Clearances abruptly destroy Artis MacKay's idyllic world. Patrick Steller, the Countess of Sutherland's estate manager, murders Artis' family and burns her village. Forced into indentured servitude in the colonies, she becomes a Virginia plantation servant. After seven long years, Artis receives her freedom dues - land in Kentucky. Bear MacKee grew up in the Highlands too, but disease claims his parents on his family's voyage to the colonies. Adopted by the Wyllies, he becomes a loyal and fiercely protective brother who journeys with them to Kentucky. With his brothers safely settled, the time comes for Bear to find his own wife and future. Their past and their destiny entwined, Artis and Bear meet and pledge their love. But a cold-blooded old enemy and a ruthless new adversary threaten to crush Artis and Bear's chance for happiness. And the dark side of nature becomes a frightening adversary, too. For love to triumph in the wilderness, they must evoke the MacKay Clan motto - Manu Forti - with a strong hand.

My favorite so far!

Artis is a young woman, kicked out of her home and country and sent to America to start over. She forced to become an indentured servant but after 7 years is given land in the new territory of Kentucky as payment for her work. Little does she know though that the man who killed her mother and forced her out of her home is now after her to take even more.

Bear MacKee was also forced out of Scotland and then lost both of his parents on their way to America. Adopted by the Wiley family, Bear has set himself up as the family's protector and has created quite the reputation for his courage, strength, honesty and fierce defense of his new family. But after he sees brother after brother getting married and finding the love of their lives, he wants to get his turn. He plans to travel a long distance for his new goal but quickly finds himself rescuing a damsel in distress, and quickly finds out that she is not as weak has he though.

Can this strong-willed Scottish couple come together and fight the forces that are determined to separate them. Together, Bear and Aris find that love is about connection, trust and giving of one's self even if it means sacrificing to get the one thing they have longed for: love.

I have LOVED this series by Dorothy Wiley! My favorite character has been Bear MacKee all along! I was so excited to hear his story and was NOT disappointed at all. Tim Campbell is an AMAZING narrator and I was thrilled by how well he kept three very distinct Scotish characters throughout the book as well as numerous very strong and interesting Kentucky and New English characters as well. He wove the story so well, that I felt like when I closed my eyes, I was watching a movie!

Love this series

This is the 4th book in the series and my favorite so far. Enjoyable read with lots of action, romance, happy and sad moments. I love the romance between Bear and Artis, both immigrated from Scotland, from the same clan and met in America.Dorothy Wiley is an amazing writer and Tim Campbell’s wonderful narration held my attention to the last page.
