About this listen

At Leah's 30th birthday party, she meets a woman whom she's convinced is paid to entertain her for the evening. But in the following days, she discovers that Ms. Margaret Sloan, one of the most cutthroat businesswomen in the world, thought Leah was the paid professional she hired while in Portland for the weekend.

Sloan fears a lawsuit. Leah fears her only chance for a whirlwind romance is about to fly off to Thailand or Switzerland. Too bad they're both keeping dire secrets that could doom whatever feelings they have.

Oh, the devilish games they're about to play....

not as good

this was not as good as the other collaborations these 2 have done. i also think the narrator didn't do this book any favors. I really struggled to get through this one.

Almost ruined before I could get into it

I know that this is a dynamic that people are into, at least in this kind of kinky fiction, but I can't handle judgy elitism. So most of the scenes from Sloan's perspective in the beginning really put me off the story. However I was determined to push through and give it a chance.
Honestly the story from Leah's perspective is what pushed me to keep listening. Her side was engaging and tantalizing with the right amount of sexy, vulnerable and hidden depths.
Sloan though. Not only does her elitism not become a trope she can sacrifice on the alter of love. but her scenes are pretty uncomfortable. The kink play isn't sexy when one partner isn't present in the scene. Leah get's angry about her secret and yet Sloan's character flaw is that she is never present in their play. It keeps coming up weather it's their first real date, the first time Leah is exiting subspace, or when they get back together. The date is designed to embarrass her ex, the kink play is so she can steal the power her ex stole from her, and the end confrontation is about putting the ex in their place...

Hot hot

A hot listen. And an interesting story. Bdsm is not easy to write about I imagine. But the author did a very good job with the dynamic and research was done. The narrator did a good job, but did miss some smokeyness?.

So good!

I wish I would have been stuck in that situation on my 30th Birthday! I was hooked from the start.

Games We Play

Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings built a beautiful love story around a genuinely lovely woman, Leah. Leah was charmed by Sloan and fell for her pretty quickly. I saw it as innocence. My only question mark is Leah's inability to allow her lover to explain. The ease of their relationship thereafter made that point slide away. I loved them both. Stephanie Murphy's narration was superb. She portrayed the emotions so well. It is well worth the listen or the read. It is now a favourite.

I'm honestly curious...

... if this author is a Portland native or if she really just did her research. Being born and raised in the area, I noticed just how many details in the book were real (Lincoln HS for example and it being downtown) and I can't lie, I loved that I was able to follow along with locations and everything, but I can't tell if she was from here as well or if she really just did her research. whichever the case, I love that she uses actual locations of places, and I haven't finished the book yet but so far I'm really enjoying it!

Challenging to follow

The story like is fairly good, somewhat predictable. The hard part is that it is challenging to follow the narrator through the story as the thoughts of the characters and what the characters actually say seems to blend without the terms used such as “She thought/ She said”
