About this listen

When Amethyst Faye was six years old, she was almost stolen by a monster in the woods on the same night her mother mysteriously disappeared. Ten years, a half-dozen psychiatrists, and a slew of diagnoses haven’t made things any better; she is still plagued by nightmares, ridiculed at school, and misunderstood by everyone from her teachers to her counselor to her father. And lately she’s been sprouting thick green thorns out of her skin.

Summer at Gran’s in Morgan Springs wins out, just barely, and only because a backwater town sounds marginally more interesting than a mental institution. Amethyst draws the attention of Ben, the boy of her dreams, and Absynth, the creature from her nightmares. Although neither of them is what she expected, Amethyst realizes both Ben and Absynth are exactly what she needs to heal her heart and harness the fairy magic she’s inherited.

Unfortunately for Amethyst, trying to walk both paths could get her killed, but having to choose between them is far worse.

I truly enjoyed listening to this book. It was a bit predictable but didn’t disappoint. Searched for the sequel. I absolutely want to know what will happen next.

Beautifully written

Someone said it the girl
Is always whining up until the end
Look this author shows promise and maybe younger readers would love it … it is not sophisticated and was dull and I had to skip to the end which I often do to see if it is worth it and really .. not for me

Teen romance is a little too predictable

It’s well-shaped, consistent and more original than it looks. The romance between the main characters (as it was pointed out by other reviewers) is exaggerated, but believable for teens in love for the first time. The author took the time to prune the details (pun intended) so I was pleased with the end result.

A not bad young teen fantasy story

It's not horrible. But could have been better. The main character needed work. Overall I agree the story was very lacking.

MEH

What a unique and fun story, with an undercurrent of romance! I started this story with the expectation of just enjoying the narrative, but, somehow found myself getting invested in the characters, even crying at points. Well done!

Pleasantly surprised!

I am totally enchanted with this story.
I’m sorry I can’t give you more. You must listen for yourself.

Enchanted

The end was disappointing as it’s clearly leading into a sequel. The idea of this story is interesting but the story itself is not nuanced enough to keep my attention.

Meh

This was well read by the performer. The story was original and not predictable. But there were some major issues I had that were not believable. the father just shipping his daughter off to family member they have no relationship with for 10 years?! The life altering decisions based on a sort of boyfriend of how long, a week? It just seemed far fetched to me. But the actual fairytale part was more believable than the "human" story.

Interesting fairytale twist
