About this listen

A classic work of female psychology that uses seven archetypcal goddesses as a way of describing behavior patterns and personality traits is being introduced to the next generation of listeners with a new introduction by the author.

Psychoanalyst Jean Bolen's career soared in the early 1980s when Goddesses in Everywoman was published. Thousands of women readers became fascinated with identifying their own inner goddesses and using these archetypes to guide themselves to greater self-esteem, creativity, and happiness.

Bolen's radical idea was that just as women used to be unconscious of the powerful effects that cultural stereotypes had on them, they were also unconscious of powerful archetypal forces within them that influence what they do and how they feel, and which account for major differences among them. Bolen believes that an understanding of these inner patterns and their interrelationships offers reassuring, true-to-life alternatives that take women far beyond such restrictive dichotomies as masculine/feminine, mother/lover, careerist/housewife. And she demonstrates in this book how understanding them can provide the key to self-knowledge and wholeness.

Dr. Bolen introduced these patterns in the guise of seven archetypal goddesses, or personality types, with whom all women could identify, from the autonomous Artemis and the cool Athena to the nurturing Demeter and the creative Aphrodite, and explains how to decide which to cultivate and which to overcome, and how to tap the power of these enduring archetypes to become a better "heroine" in one's own life story.

Fascinating to think about

This was such an interesting twist on psychology… it was rewarding to listen to the different Goddesses and how I identify with each. I was interested in this book I would have never chosen and would recommend it… it’s surprising

Beyond phenomenal

as a person who studies human behavior, this book is a wonderful guide into female psychology. this book has helped me in Indescribable ways. I now have a window, Amir glimmer, into understanding the women in my life. this book also can act as a window into the feminine aspects of every man as well. this author is my new favorite, and I look forward to reading more of her material. I'm driving so I'm going to put my phone down now.

Excellent book, okay performance

Although the analogies between Greek goddesses and personality archetypes occasionally feel strained or shoehorned, I feel the premise, insight and advice contained within this book are strong enough to warrant five stars. I will gladly listen again, read the hard copy as well, and seek out other books by this author.

The performance was slightly sing-songy (made worse at accelerated speeds, so I recommend listening to this book at a normal speed), with both odd pronunciations and mispronunciations that were slightly distracting but not unlistenable.

A great book for Mediums or wannabe Mediums (I’m a Schizophrenic 23 year old male)

I have had voices in my head for two years and this was a great voice to upgrade the quality of my voices. These spirits were very kind (I am positive as I do philosophy (stoicism which inspired Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), spirituality (reiki and yoga), and can control my voices now (after 2 years of torment, finally). These voices are very fun, and make my life surreal.
This book teaches you the mindset of each voice so you can tap into its power more. Also what they want in a man. I know I’m in the minority of readers, as I am a man, but something this taught me is how to attract my Goddess archetype which is something I really appreciate. I hope you guys enjoy this book as much as I did.
And for you inspiring mediums and channelers, if you are unsuccessful with the voices, remember everything here is only temporary. You can come back down the road and try again!!! There’s always another star or day of sun!!! Shoot for the moon, miss and you might just hit a star!!!

Muy interesante

Un libro fascinante que te pone a meditar. Ya al final era demasiada información y me costó trabajo entender lo que escuchaba.
