About this listen

Gold Dust Woman gives "the gold standard of rock biographers" (the Boston Globe) his ideal topic: Nicks' work and life are equally sexy and interesting, and Davis delves deeply into each, unearthing fresh details from new, intimate interviews and interpreting them to present a rich new portrait of the star. Just as Nicks (and Lindsay Buckingham) gave Fleetwood Mac the "shot of adrenaline" they needed to become real rock stars - according to Christine McVie - Gold Dust Woman is vibrant with stories and with a life lived large and hard:

  • How Nicks and Buckingham were asked to join Fleetwood Mac and how they turned the band into stars
  • The affairs that informed Nicks' greatest songs
  • Her relationships with the Eagles' Don Henley and Joe Walsh, and with Fleetwood himself
  • Why Nicks married her best friend's widower
  • Her dependency on cocaine, drinking, and pot, but how it was a decade-long addiction to Klonopin that almost killed her
  • Nicks' successful solo career that has her still performing in venues like Madison Square Garden
  • The cult of Nicks and its extension to chart-toppers like Taylor Swift and the Dixie Chicks

Nicely Done!

Nicely written and performed in a Switzerland-neutral tone. Great story woven without speculation, just facts the author had gleaned from other primary sources. Well researched and put together.

So informative!

Loved this book. It offered so many insights to the “stories behind the songs” that I loved in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and beyond. What a remarkable woman. Her perseverance through addiction, then horrendous medical treatment should be an inspiration for all.

Still love our Stevie

Would you consider the audio edition of Gold Dust Woman to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed listening to the story in my car. I do not have time to read for enjoyment so I would not have had the opportunity to sit down to read it. I Love listening to Audiobooks.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Steve Nicks- I have more respect for her than I ever did. I've been a fan from the start.

Stand Back

This was a mildly entertaining story. It didn’t cover as much as I had hoped. However, anyone that loves Stevie should read this. Hopefully, she will release an autobiography that is more telling and true. This focused on a lot of information that was already out there. I don’t think the author had any contact with Stevie. The narrator was pretty bad. Listen to the sample before purchasing.

Great book!

If we can’t get a biography directly from Stevie this is the next best thing! Very detailed and the authors research to get all that detail are impressive. Unauthorized biographies a lot of the time just fall short but this one nails it!

Just Okay

Struggled to finish, kept trying to finish. Did not care for this Biography at all. I had hopes that it would be better, but it just never got there.

Loved it

I thought this was so interesting and I couldn’t stop listening. I really loved the narration. I had to listen to her music in between and afterwards.
