About this listen

An enchanting fantasy romance inspired by Rumpelstiltskin...

All Elaine Westover ever wanted was to be left alone. A shy but brilliant artist, her only desire is to paint in peace, but when she is forced to accept a commission in order to save her family home, she must confront a client as villainous as he is rich.

After a chilling encounter reveals his twisted ambitions, he imprisons her and threatens to destroy everything she loves unless she meets his demands.

Held captive in a house haunted by tragedy and despair, Elaine fears that neither her courage nor her skill can save her from a dark and terrifying fate. To defeat her captor and win back her freedom, Elaine must accept the aid of an enigmatic stranger, who may be hiding his own reasons for wanting her to stay.

Love This

Esther Wane is a great narrator and did an excellent job with this story. I love fairytale re-tellings and liked how the characters are all connected in this series. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Esther Wayne does a really good job with the audiobook narration. Her voice is so perfect for fairy tale retellings like this. If you like audiobooks, you'll definitely want to check it out. If you like fairy tale retellings, this is one series you won't want to miss.

Creative Fairy Tale Re-Imagining

I had never thought of Rumpelstiltskin as being good fodder for a retelling centered on a shy female artist, but Davidson really weaves this into a whole new story. Some loose threads and events that don’t seem to be returned to throughout, but overall an easy, enjoyable listen.

Gold of Heart

This is more of a dark retelling, Elaine Westover the girl who is was kidnapped in Traitors Masque, This is her story, She finds herself in financial straits and no way to pay her fathers debt, now is her own, Except that she has the gift of Painting, When everything seems dark and bleak, Will your true treasure speak. with every gray cloud there is a silver lining, and this book was a wonderful example of that. superbly written, and the narrator Esther Wane brought the story to life and you could see the story unfold, and yes it ended with happily ever after!

Rumpelstiltskin retelling story

I love this retelling of Rumpelstiltskin so so much! It is a great original story with all the outlines of the first Rumpelstiltskin I heard as a child.
Kenley Davidson sure has a talent! I will be reading and following her from now on!
