About this listen

A realistic, fast-paced reimagining of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale full of royalty, romance, and danger. This masterful combination of love and heartbreak - combined with the novel’s surprise ending - is everything fans of fantasy, historical, and medieval fiction yearn for.

Rose has been appointed as a healer’s apprentice at Hagenheim Castle, a rare opportunity for a woodcutter’s daughter like her. While she often feels uneasy at the sight of blood, Rose is determined to prove herself capable. Failure will mean returning home to marry the aging bachelor her mother has chosen for her - a bloated, disgusting merchant who makes Rose feel ill.

When Lord Hamlin, the future duke, is injured, it is Rose who must tend to him. As she works to heal his wound, she begins to understand emotions she’s never felt before and wonders if he feels the same.

But falling in love is forbidden, as Lord Hamlin is betrothed to a mysterious young woman in hiding. As Rose’s life spins toward confusion, she must take the first steps on a journey to discover her own destiny.

I love how wholesome the story is. This is by far the best retelling of Sleeping Beauty and I love love love that it's a Christian retelling of Sleeping Beauty.
The narrator did her job well... A+

I liked the story until the last few chapters. I liked the interaction of the hero and heroine in the beginning, but towards the end of the book the story started to drag and almost became ridiculous. I found myself just wanting to skip to the end just to get it over with. It was disappointing, because the story started out so well.

This book was okay

Although some may consider that the Lords name seems to be used in vain on a few occasions, the two main characters are strong and faithful people. It is obvious that the writer did her research and the mix of history with a fairytale feel is quite nice.

A faith filled story

I really wanted to like this book. It’s obvious that the author put time into research for the period and location. The setting was definitely the best part. Some of the characters were pretty compelling, but overall I felt like there were a lot of times the book dragged.
Some of the story was cute and fun, but then there were elements that were more like a morality tale crossed with a Catholic/Christian romance novel (not super in your face, but definitely there).
I felt like things got a bit repetitive, there was a lot of waffling over emotions versus responsibility, and the main villain ended up falling kinda flat for me... anyway, I’m not saying I could do better, but I don’t think I’ll listen to it again.

It was ok.
