About this listen

Victimology: tall, slim, blond hair, jeans. And a Harvest Festival t-shirt…

Finding the body of a young woman in Haldane Hill Park rings alarm bells for Detective Constable Holly Towns. But can she even say the words ‘serial killer’ and be taken seriously?

The media names him the Port Predator, and he’s not finished. Not even close.

Another young woman is missing, and time is running out.

Officers in the Criminal Investigations Unit are focused on a set of strong suspects, but Holly is drawn in another direction. The risks are high. She’ll be an outcast if she reveals her suspect, but someone could pay the ultimate price if she ignores her instincts.

Haldane Hill also holds a gruesome surprise for a mother and child walking on the beach nearby.

Holly confirms that the pair have stumbled upon skeletal human remains, a bleached skull and a nest of bones deep in a bank overlooking the lake. Should her next call be to the coroner or an archaeologist?

The CIU officers are pulled in multiple directions, and past and present become entangled.

As if that isn’t enough, Holly skirts a scandal within her own department, determined to prove her loyalty, even if she risks her own career.

If you like complex characters, twisty plots, and a fast-paced story, the Goodbye… series is for you.

First, let me say how much I HATE most Virtual Voice audiobooks but these Holly Towns Canadian mysteries are actually very good. The Virtual Voice does have a few mispronunciations but they're not very annoying. The author is refreshingly clean in a world of books with the F-word in every paragraph. These books have a mild romantic background story that carries thru every book, which I prefer. They're clean, non-offensive and entertainingly pleasant listening. Nobody gets dismembered and no sickening descriptions of violent beatings. I usually only listen to modern British/Scottish/Irish murder mysteries with excellent human voice narration (think Angus King) so this is rare praise, coming from me. If you've been resisting Virtual Voice books, as I have, I urge you to give these a try. And right now, they're almost all free (only one requires a credit) so you're not risking anything by trying one!
