Like a mirror

Never in my life have my own doubts and fears been laid out in the words of another as have been in this discourse. To know that I’m not unique and that there is nothing new under the sun bids me fly to my Jesus with no delay and rest in him in every way.

It can only be done with Jesus

By no strength of our own do we carry out the Father's will, but by his Spirit. Bunyan's last realizations about his condition, the seven deficiencies in him and how those deficiencies make him dependant on the Lord, are true from what I have experienced myself in this life. Praise God for his mercy! Without the grace described in John 3:16 we are utterly lost, but again, praise God for his mercy!

To the earnest, yet struggling soul

To a man like myself, who, although outwardly Christian and religious my entire life, yet really wicked, stumbling and fumbling and tumbling, but eventually late in life, to be converted, and be found forsaking all of those things which tied me down, and we’re a stench before the nostrils of God, and were to the detriment of all who loved me; this book is a challenge to my heart and a comfort to my soul.

"...but now do we love Christ."

What made the experience of listening to Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners the most enjoyable?

This work is a balm to the terror stricken soul and bids every to soul to pray for mercy; "perhaps there is hope for me also."

What did you like best about this story?

If anyone agonizes over the assurance of their salvation, blasphemous thoughts, the unpardonable sin, temptation, sin, attacks of the evil one, or any other ill that attacks the soul of man in opposition to salvation and the glory of God through the person of Jesus Christ, then "Come ye who fear God and I will tell you what He has done for my soul!" Truly indeed, here in this book is "a wonderful system of education."

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Simon Vance is John Bunyan. I have listened to this work a dozen times and plan to listen to it a dozen more. I can't listen to any of his other works because all I hear is "Come ye who fear God and I will tell you what He has done for my soul!"

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"O Love that Will Not Let Me Go"

A Help For The Christian To Grow in Grace

Spurgeon talks about how he grew from a youth who had a profane mouth, did not like things of God to someone who listened to the things of God and eventually had the burden to become a preacher. He talks about his doubts about his own salvation, the state of his soul, all about how God met him during the process of his growth and how Satan buffeted him, tried to stop him. It shows the heart of one who is a sincere follower of God who is totally committed to following him and doing his will.

Very good book. it is made really for the Christian, not one who is a seeker.. This is from the same author of a Pilgrim's Progress, which I haven't read but I know it's a Christian classic.

Simon Vance is easy to listen to, has a pleasant voice and is expressive when is appropriate.

A humble sinner

This book is a great encouragement to the Christian believer. 1) it shows you how to recognize your sin and 2) how to draw near to the throne of grace.

I think I may listen to this one more than once!

Bunyan's reflections on his deepest and most innermost struggles in sin are so open and honest, and all the more helpful to us fellow pilgrims as a result!

Excellent read.

Enjoyed the book very much, especially after having read Pilgrim's Progress. Narration is excellent. Most of John Banyan are read by the same narrator. It reads like the King James Version of the Bible (written in the 1600s). I enjoyed it very much. Will read it again (now, even though I've just finished it).

Raw, Authentic, Encouraging

A wonderful testimony of the hope found in Christ, from another self-admitted chief of sinners. Bunyan is a fantastic writer, and an honest man. Both these qualities combine for a wonderful account of a life devoted to Christ, because of Christ.

The Grace of God toward sinners like me!

Amazing reminder of how little I am, and of how great is our LORD Jesus Christ!
